Shonen Jump’s Hardest-Hitting Classic Series Prepares an Anime Funeral For Its Villains

Anime villains, much like those in other popular stories, are often so cruel that people don’t shed a tear when they’re defeated. Characters like Frieza from Dragon Ball Z, All For One from My Hero Academia, Aizen from Bleach, and Sukuna from Jujutsu Kaisen are responsible for so much destruction that it’s hard to imagine anyone celebrating their lives. However, Fist of the North Star introduced a bleak, post-apocalyptic world to readers long before these series, and now, a funny tribute to the villains of that era is on its way.

I’m really excited about the new anime project, Fist of the North Star: Requiem For The Fist King Army’s Weapons. It’s taking a unique approach by bringing together many of the most memorable villains from the Fist of the North Star series. The story follows a new character, Knob, who’s voiced by Hiro Shimono. He’s basically a guy looking for a job, but he wants to join the very group of villains that Kenshiro fought in the original series! It’ll be interesting to see if he can survive being one of them. The series is set to premiere on January 5th.

This new series is set in 199X, a world devastated by nuclear war where simply staying alive is a struggle. The story follows Nobu, who unexpectedly lands a job with the notorious “Kenoh Army”! But can he survive in a workplace where the death rate is higher than the hiring rate? He’ll encounter a strange group of coworkers, including an old woman who’s more than she seems, a former prison warden, and even someone known as the Holy Emperor’s “filth disinfectant!”

A Funeral For A Fiend

In 2026, fans of action manga (shonen) will not only get a new series based on Fist of the North Star, but the franchise is also planning a major celebration of its 40th anniversary. The remake will be produced by Toei Animation, the well-known studio behind popular series like One Piece and Dragon Ball. When the project was first announced in 2023, the original creator of Fist of the North Star, Buronson, expressed his excitement.

The creator of Fist of the North Star shared their excitement about the new anime adaptation. They explained that while they stepped away from animation years ago due to differences from manga, animation technology has improved dramatically. They’re eager to see how the classic story will be brought to life with modern techniques, emphasizing that the new production will stay true to the original work. They expressed their hope that fans, both old and new, will enjoy this revival of their 40-year-old creation.
