Shonen Jump’s Hottest New Manga Just Repeated Anime’s Coolest Trope

Weekly Shonen Jump continues to succeed with its traditional action series, using a formula that fans love. These stories often feature powerful transformations, intense rivalries, and other exciting elements. But a particularly popular and defining trope is when the hero hits a limit, forcing an inner power – sometimes a creature – to take control and overcome the obstacle, usually with significant repercussions.

If you’re a fan of popular anime like *Naruto* or *Jujutsu Kaisen*, you’ll see familiar themes in *Ichi the Witch*, the exciting new manga from Shonen Jump. The story follows Ichi, who becomes the first male witch in a world of powerful women and magic by taking control of a magical monster named Uroro. After establishing himself as a compelling hero, the series is now diving into a classic anime trope: the monster taking over! In the latest battle, Ichi loses consciousness, allowing Uroro to emerge, which sets up a huge, anticipated fight.

Shonen Jump’s Ichi the Witch Just Solidified Itself as a Classic Shonen Series

The story of *Ichi the Witch* centers on the Witches’ Association collecting powerful magic to fight the World Hater, who seems to be the series’ main villain. In chapter 55, titled “Hunt: Kneel,” the group—including the main character, Ichi—encounters Kizashi, one of the World Hater’s seven strongest soldiers. Seeing Kizashi as a dangerous enemy, Ichi quickly launches a powerful attack, boosted by the magic-enhancing abilities of his companion, Uroro. Using Uroro’s power, however, immediately causes Ichi to lose consciousness—a common consequence of accessing that level of magic.

Things quickly turn dangerous for the witch hunters when Ichi is knocked out and Kizashi remains unaffected. However, in a surprising turn of events, Ichi gets back to his feet, but not as himself. Uroro has taken over his body – a common storyline in this type of series where a character is possessed by a powerful inner force. Throughout the story, fans have been eager to see just how strong Uroro really is, and this moment suggests they’re finally about to find out.

The situation gets even more interesting because Uroro might be able to unlock hidden powers within Ichi’s body. With Uroro constantly increasing the strength of his attacks, there’s a real chance he can finally defeat Kizashi. The key seems to be the numbers on Kizashi’s body – after being hit by Ichi, the number went down to 314, hinting that Uroro might need to land 314 more hits to win. This sets up a potentially explosive battle in the popular new series, with Uroro possibly unleashing a destructive force similar to Sukuna, and leaving the future of *Ichi the Witch* wide open.
