At long last, the anticipated anime adaptation for “Akane-banashi,” the hidden gem from Weekly Shonen Jump, is on its way, sooner than many had anticipated. Not only does it appear to surpass expectations, but the team seems determined to create an extraordinary anime that may catapult this remarkable series to new levels of recognition and acclaim.
I’m thrilled to share some exciting news as an ardent fan! It’s officially confirmed that the manga by Yūki Suenaga and Takamasa Moue, which we all love, is getting an anime adaptation! This project is being handled by TV Asahi and Studio ZEXCS, and it’s scheduled to debut in 2026. To build anticipation, they’ve already unveiled a teaser trailer and key visual.
Mark your calendars for Anime NYC 2025, where you’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at the anime’s production, as SHUEISHA editor Seisuke Araki and TV Asahi producer Kazuki Endo will be there. If you still have doubts about this upcoming anime, let me tell you, both creators are highly impressed with the enthusiasm of the cast and crew working tirelessly to bring it to life. The stage is set for Akane-banashi‘s release next year, an event not to be missed!
Akane-banashi’s Anime Looks Spectacular
In this project, renowned Director Ayumu Watanabe, known for “Witch Hat Atelier” and “Summertime Rendering”, is at the helm, with Yu Harima serving as his assistant. Kii Tanaka, famous for “Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead”, takes charge of character design and serves as the chief animation director. Michihiro Tsuchiya, a veteran in the field with works like “Bakuman” and “Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood”, handles the series composition. Akio Izutsu is responsible for the music composition. Rakugo supervision is provided by Kikuhiko Hayashiya, who also contributes to the manga. The team is eager and ready to merge the deep world of rakugo with expressive animation, as expressed by assistant director Yu Harima. With a dedicated and passionate staff, they aim to portray the intensity and drama of the original work and beautifully depict the art of rakugo.
At present, we’ve only verified the participation of three voice actors for the anime series “Akane-banashi“. Here’s a rundown of the confirmed cast thus far:
1. Voice Actor 1 – Character 1
2. Voice Actor 2 – Character 2
3. Voice Actor 3 – Character 3
(Please note that the characters have not been specified in your original text, so I’ve added them here for clarity.)
Anna Nagase (from Suicide Squad Isekai and Blue Box) is set to star as Akane Osaki. Takuya Eguchi (known for Haikyuu!! and Spy x Family) will voice Karashi Nerimaya, a talented performer who won the Karaku Cup twice in a row. Rie Takahashi (famous for Re:Zero and Oshi no Ko) will voice Hikaru Koragi. More cast members will be announced later, but the main characters will be played by skilled and seasoned actors who’ve given life to many cherished characters.
Akane Osaki, enchanted by her father Shinta Arakawa’s magical storytelling since childhood, experiences an unexpected event during his crucial performance for promotion to the master rank of rakugo. Six years later, as a high school student, she aspires to follow in her father’s footsteps and achieve the master rank herself, navigating the cut-throat world of traditional Japanese storytelling known as rakugo. A heartfelt and genuine rakugo performance unfolds!
Akane-banashi Will Take Over In 2026
The designs for the characters are striking, the graphics are captivating, and the vocal performances are impressive too. Given the amount of information released about the anime upon its announcement, it seems like production is progressing smoothly, which bodes well for the final product. 2026 looks set to be an exciting year as Frieren, Mushoku Tensei, and Witch Hat Atelier, along with Akane-banashi, join a crowded field. If everything goes according to plan, it could very well be one of the standout anime releases in 2026.
