Shovel Knight Developer’s New Zelda-Like Game Delayed Just Weeks Before Planned Release

Yacht Club Games, the indie studio behind the popular *Shovel Knight*, is well-loved by gamers. Both *Shovel Knight* and their next project were successfully funded through Kickstarter. However, the release of their new game has been delayed unexpectedly, despite being almost ready. Yacht Club Games hasn’t announced a new release date, leaving fans waiting for more information.

The highly anticipated game *Mina the Hollower*, which plays similarly to *Zelda*, was originally planned to launch on October 31st across all platforms. Unfortunately, the release has been delayed with no new date announced. Yacht Club Games has reassured fans that the delay isn’t significant and apologized for the late notice. According to the developer, the delay is to allow for further refinement and polishing of the game.

The team has been working incredibly hard to get the game ready for its October 31st release, but we need a little more time. It’s not a big delay – we just want to add some final touches and refinements to make the game the best it can be.

Yacht Club Games confirms they’re actively playing the game daily, but *Mina the Hollower* still needs a bit more polish. The team will focus on finishing the artwork and sound, fine-tuning gameplay, translating the game into different languages, and thoroughly testing it on all platforms. They’re committed to ensuring everything is just right before the next release. And, apparently, they’ll be enjoying some cheese to help them connect with the game’s main character, Mina!

Okay, so I’ve been following *Mina the Hollower* and it’s seriously different from *Shovel Knight*. Instead of running and jumping through levels, it’s more like a classic Zelda game – you explore from a top-down view. It’s got a bit of *Castlevania* vibe too, which I’m totally into! Even though it’s a totally new style of game for the developers, Yacht Club Games still manages to pack in their signature humor and awesome design. I’ve played the demos they’ve released, and honestly, everyone seems to be really excited about it!

We’ve made the difficult decision to postpone the release of Mina the Hollower. Our team has been working incredibly hard to finish the game by October 31st, but we need a little more time to make it our best. You can read the full announcement here.

It’s no surprise fans are upset about the delay, especially since *Mina the Hollower*’s spooky style would have been ideal for a Halloween release. However, Yacht Club Games consistently makes high-quality games, so players can still look forward to a fantastic experience when it finally comes out.

It’s common for video games to be delayed, and we’ve seen this happen with many titles, including *Mina the Hollower*, sometimes right before launch. Interestingly, several games were pushed back after *Hollow Knight: Silksong* announced its release date. When a delay happens, it’s helpful to consider the developer’s past work and the reason behind the postponement. Given Yacht Club Games’ reputation for quality and their commitment to refining their games, there’s still a strong possibility that *Mina the Hollower* will come out this year, despite predictions of a 2026 release.
