Michael J. Fox is getting a lot of attention right now thanks to his new memoir, Future Boy, where he shares stories about his experiences making Back to the Future, including why he didn’t enjoy driving the famous DeLorean and how he feels about landing the role of Marty McFly. But that’s not all – he’s also returning to television in Season 3 of Shrinking, which will be available next month. The show’s creator, Bill Lawrence, has talked about Fox’s part in the upcoming season, and I’m even more excited to see him act again.
Michael Lawrence and Bill Fox have a long working relationship. Fox was a main cast member for the first four seasons of Spin City, Lawrence’s first TV series, and later made guest appearances on Clone High and Scrubs. Shrinking will be Fox’s first on-screen role since he revisited his character, Louis Canning, from The Good Wife in two episodes of its spin-off, The Good Fight. Lawrence recently told TVLine how he brought Fox onto his new show.
He let slip over the summer, while we were out together, that he actually missed acting. Given that he’s living with Parkinson’s, I was really impressed and thought it was amazing to see him play a character dealing with the same condition. He’s still incredibly funny, and audiences will see that for themselves when the trailer is released.

Bill Lawrence has revealed that Michael J. Fox will play a fully developed character – not a version of himself – in the third season of Shrinking. This new character will encounter Harrison Ford’s Paul Rhoades, who also lives with Parkinson’s disease, early in the season and will be featured in several episodes. It’s expected that Fox’s character will help Paul navigate the challenges of the disease, especially since, in the second season, Fox’s character learned his medication will soon become ineffective.

Shrinking Star Says Season 3 Is A ‘Showcase’ For Harrison Ford, And That Scares Me
The Apple TV+ series ‘Shrinking’ isn’t ending with season three, and one of its creators says they believe there are still plenty of stories left to explore.
The show is dealing with some serious themes, so I’m really happy to hear Michael J. Fox will have opportunities for comedy in the next season of Shrinking. His excellent timing, paired with Harrison Ford’s deadpan humor, could be incredibly funny. I’m excited to see them together, and I’m also wondering if Fox will share scenes with the other main characters, like Jason Segel’s Jimmy or Jessica Williams’ Gaby.
Season 3 of Shrinking will feature Jeff Daniels as Jimmy’s father, with Sherry Cola, Isabella Gomez, and Candice Bergman also joining the cast in currently unannounced roles. New episodes begin streaming on Apple TV on Wednesday, January 28th.
