Shuhei Yoshida on the Switch 2 Direct: ‘Underwhelming Until FromSoftware Showed Up’

You might not be aware, but Shuhei Yoshida, the cherished former PlayStation executive with more than three decades of experience, shared his real-time reactions during Nintendo’s significant Switch 2 broadcast.

He became part of the MinnMax team to catch the live event, and he offered comments primarily following the conclusion of the presentation.

Host Ben Hanson prompted him for his opinions regarding the Direct, and without hesitation, he expressed them honestly. In his words, “The presentation was lackluster until the FromSoftware game appeared.” (Yoshida)

On a scale of 1 to 10, I’d initially rate the show as 6. However, once the topic shifted to the FromSoftware game, my rating increased to 7.

He mentioned his desire for fresh game announcements, expressing some disappointment as the Direct primarily featured remakes or re-releases instead.

Yoshida highly enjoyed the camera accessory for the Nintendo Switch 2 and the unique gameplay features that came with it. He also appreciated being able to observe other players’ games, regardless of whether they were playing a different title.

He additionally commented that the Welcome Tour game resembles a tutorial, looking quite appealing. However, he expressed hope that its cost would be affordable. Luckily, it seems that affordability might indeed be the reality.

Regarding the console’s cost, he mentions that the U.S. price is more expensive than he expected initially, but prices in general are higher these days.

After finding out the cost in Japan, he was astonished by how affordably priced it was. “Wow, it’s only 50,000 yen — that’s almost unimaginable, given that it’s around 150 yen per US dollar!” Everyone should consider visiting Japan and purchasing it!

Yoshida didn’t give a perfect score, but it appears he’s quite enthusiastic about the unveiled game The Duskbloods and the social aspects of the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.

It’s intriguing to listen to his perspectives on a competitor’s showcase, considering his long-standing association with PlayStation, though he is no longer affiliated with the company.
