Shuttered Dev Bluepoint Wanted to Remake Bloodborne, FromSoftware Blocked It

According to a recent Bloomberg report, Sony initially approved a pitch from Bluepoint Games to remake the PlayStation 4 hit Bloodborne. The decision was based on promising financial projections, meaning the potential for profit looked good.

Despite plans for a remake, the project never moved forward because FromSoftware, the studio that originally created the game for PlayStation 4, decided against it. While Sony owns the Bloodborne franchise, FromSoftware was the primary developer, creating the game in partnership with Sony.

Bluepoint Games reportedly proposed a remake of Bloodborne on several occasions. While the idea was seriously considered and even seemed likely to happen at one point, it ultimately never moved forward into development.

The report also states that Bluepoint Games proposed an enhanced version of their Shadow of the Colossus remake for PlayStation, but Sony declined the idea. Bluepoint then approached other PlayStation studios with proposals for new games, including a potential spin-off of Ghost of Tsushima, but none of these projects were approved.

Bluepoint Games secretly developed a multiplayer God of War game for several years, but it was cancelled in early 2025. According to a report from Bloomberg, the game’s story involved Atreus being trapped in the Underworld.

According to reports, the initial concept involved players controlling different forms of Atreus while navigating Greek mythology’s underworld, with plans for cooperative play and continued updates. However, the game’s design was still being developed and changed frequently.

The developer struggled with the project for several years and didn’t make much headway.

Sources say Sony decided Bluepoint Games didn’t have the capacity to develop its own title and couldn’t find a suitable partner. This led to the studio’s closure, and employees became concerned when the announcement of a God of War Trilogy Remake didn’t include Bluepoint’s involvement a few weeks ago.
