Sigourney Weaver is one of the few actors currently working who has appeared in so many memorable and famous movie scenes.
Sigourney Weaver is best known for her iconic role as Ellen Ripley in the Alien movies, giving us many unforgettable scenes. She’s also starred in a variety of other popular films, including Gorillas in the Mist, Ghostbusters, and Galaxy Quest.
More recently, she’s become known for her role in James Cameron’s blockbuster Avatar movies, a series that truly needs to be seen on the big screen. However, the newest film, Fire and Ash, is being released at a time when people are watching fewer movies in theaters than ever before.
This movie is expected to be a huge success at the box office, just like the previous two which both earned over $2 billion. However, with Warner Bros. being acquired by Netflix, many movie lovers are worried about the future of going to the cinema, and for good reason.

I believe storytellers have always been incredibly important in every culture,” she said in a recent interview. “Someone who can offer comfort and strength through song or a story – especially during difficult times, like being in a bomb shelter – is truly valued.”
She explained that with the business facing difficulties and fewer people going to the theatre, she hopes these stories will help bring back audiences and remind everyone how much they enjoy live performances.
For me, there’s just something special about sharing a movie with an audience. It’s a much richer experience than watching alone, honestly. So, I’m not too concerned about the future of cinema – I have faith that the creative minds in the industry will find a way to make it work.
Stephen Lang, who plays the villain Quaritch in all three Avatar films, expressed stronger concerns about the challenges facing movie theaters. However, like Weaver, he also tried to remain optimistic.
He confessed he was worried. “This isn’t just how I make a living,” he said, “it’s my passion – the cinema itself. It’s strong, but it’s vulnerable, and we’re constantly facing challenges from people’s foolishness and selfishness.”
Difficult times are inevitable, and challenging things will happen. However, cinema will endure because no other art form tells stories quite like it does, and stories are ultimately what connect us all.
I really loved Fire and Ash – we gave it four stars in our review – but it’s a long one, over three hours! The director, Weaver, was right to say that if you wait for it to hit streaming, you’ll be missing a huge part of the experience. It’s a movie meant to be seen properly, you know?
She explained that this movie is best seen in a theater. While you could re-watch it at home, she felt the full impact – the thrilling, fast-paced action that feels like you’re physically tumbling through the air, into the ocean, and across floating mountains – requires the big screen. She described it as an incredibly exhilarating and immersive experience.
