Sony has announced which games will take advantage of its new, improved PSSR technology, as the update starts rolling out tonight at 10 PM PT for PS5 Pro owners. In addition to previously announced titles like Control Ultimate Edition and Alan Wake 2, games including Silent Hill 2 Remake, Silent Hill f, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Nioh 3, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, and Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 will also support the feature.
Konami announced that an update to their PSSR technology has significantly improved the gameplay experience in Silent Hill f. The update makes details like grass and shadows appear much clearer, enhancing the game’s immersive atmosphere in 1960s Japan. A new trailer demonstrates how the updated PSSR virtually eliminates screen flickering, offering a noticeably smoother visual experience.
Dom Matthews, the head of Ninja Theory, expressed the team’s enthusiasm about working with Sony and praised the latest update’s improved visual effects, which make important moments in their games more impactful. Tatu Aalto, Remedy’s technical director, highlighted that the enhanced image upscaling delivers clearer motion and a more stable picture without compromising quality, and that it quickly adapts to changes within games. Ultimately, these improvements result in better and more consistent image quality for both Control and Alan Wake 2.
Fans concerned about how character hairstyles would look in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on consoles can rest easy. Director Naoki Hamaguchi has confirmed that details like hair are now accurately displayed. The game also benefits from reduced visual flickering. Players of Nioh 3 can expect clearer, more defined details in the environments, including plants and flowers.
Capcom hasn’t shared many details about this technology yet, but it will be used in both Monster Hunter Wilds and Dragon’s Dogma 2. Resident Evil Requiem was the first game to use the improved PSSR technology, and the initial results look fantastic. We’ll have more information about which other games will feature it soon.
