Throughout its history, the gaming franchise known as Silent Hill has maintained a rather intricate bond with horror elements over action. Despite the recent remake of Silent Hill 2 adopting an over-the-shoulder viewpoint, its combat remains secondary to the survival horror experience. However, this trend deviates in the upcoming mainline game, Silent Hill f, as it introduces evasive maneuvers, counterattacks, and even character stats for protagonist Hinako, suggesting a more action-oriented approach.
It’s quite a significant change, but one that appears to have been on the horizon for some time. Series producer Motoi Okamoto, speaking with Game Spark (transcribed by Automaton), stated, “From the early stages of development, I’ve always wanted to add more engaging and exhilarating action to the Silent Hill series. Given that NeoBards excels at creating action games, this was a major factor in our decision to work with them as developers.
Okamoto admitted that while Silent Hill isn’t traditionally known for its engaging action, as we aim to attract new gamers, he pondered about incorporating more action elements into the game. With action games gaining traction among younger audiences now, I think adding such features could make the game appealing not just to veterans of the series, but also to those who are new to it.
In a recent announcement, Al Yang, both Director and President of NeoBards, shared that they aimed to steer clear from repeatedly remaking “Silent Hill 2.” Recognizing there was no need for additional replicas, they opted to emphasize the action elements in their game to differentiate it from previous major titles.
Absolutely, the upcoming game Silent Hill f is introducing some novel tweaks. It will feature various endings similar to its predecessors, but here’s a twist: your initial playthrough provides a “default” resolution. Upon revisiting the story, new endings can be unlocked based on your decisions. Additionally, there’s New Game Plus, which offers additional cutscenes, altered boss battles, and even previously unexplored regions to delve into.
The game “Silent Hill” is set to release on September 25th, available on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC platforms. A fresh trailer for the game will be unveiled during the Gamescom Opening Night Live event on August 19th.
