PlayStation 5 Pro owners are increasingly frustrated by performance issues in games made by companies other than Sony, and the recently released Silent Hill F is unfortunately experiencing similar problems.
According to a recent technical analysis by Digital Foundry, the survival horror game only has one graphics setting on the PlayStation Pro – called ‘Enhanced’ – and it has a noticeable problem.
The game’s ‘Enhanced’ mode combines elements of the ‘Performance’ and ‘Quality’ settings on the standard PS5. It generally runs at a smooth 60 frames per second with a good resolution – similar to what you’d see in ‘Quality’ mode, though the exact resolution is hard to pinpoint.
On the Pro version, the game appears to require the use of PSSR, the console’s AI upscaling feature, but the visual quality isn’t very good.
PSSR often creates a subtle, constant shimmering effect on grass because the upscaling technology tries to identify and reproduce fine details.
Several other games on the PlayStation Pro, like Dragon’s Dogma 2 and Assassin’s Creed Shadows, have faced similar issues. However, those games let players turn PSSR on or off, along with other settings designed for the Pro console.
As a Silent Hill fan, I’m really disappointed to see shimmering graphics on the PS5 Pro version of Silent Hill F. It’s pretty distracting, and there are also some weird lighting problems with objects that aren’t super close or far away. Basically, we’re stuck with this until Konami releases a patch to fix it, which is a bummer.
What are your thoughts on this minor technical issue? Do you think the PS5 Pro isn’t being used to its full potential right now? Share your opinions – and maybe a screenshot of some grass – in the comments!
