Although some fans didn’t agree with the focus on fighting in the newest Silent Hill game – Silent Hill f – Konami wants to let players know that not every future game will be similar. During an interview with IGN Japan at Tokyo Game Show 2025 (translated by Automaton Media), producer Motoi Okamoto explained that Silent Hill f won’t be used as a model for how future games in the series are made.
Okamoto acknowledged that the difficult combat in Silent Hill f might not appeal to everyone, but he clarified, “That doesn’t mean all future Silent Hill games will be like Silent Hill f.” He explained that “Each game will have its own unique style.” He added that the team wants to continue trying new things and be bold with both gameplay and story, and encouraged fans to anticipate the next Silent Hill installment.
He explained this further in a social media post, saying that Konami is looking to try out new ways to play in future Silent Hill games. However, he also mentioned that they plan to keep some things the same, and the most important of those is a strong, well-written story.
As I discussed in the interview, future Silent Hill games won’t all play like the recent one. Instead, we want to make a series that’s consistently challenging but enjoyable, and we plan to offer a unique gameplay experience with each new game,” he explained.
Naturally, certain elements will stay the same, and the most crucial of these is a compelling narrative. We strongly feel that a story delving into the human psyche is central to what makes Silent Hill special, and we’ll keep prioritizing this in our future games, ensuring we deliver it with confidence.
Silent Hill f launched in September for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, and it’s already been very successful. Konami recently reported that the game has sold over a million copies. Interestingly, it’s selling faster than last year’s Silent Hill 2 remake. To give you some perspective, Silent Hill 2 also reached a million copies sold in its first week, and eventually surpassed 2 million copies within a few months.
I’ve been keeping an eye on Silent Hill f, and it’s awesome to see it’s doing so well and people are really enjoying it. I totally agree they made the right choice bringing in Higurashi When They Cry‘s Ryukishi07 to write the story – it’s a perfect fit, honestly.
“I’m thrilled that [Silent Hill f] received a Metascore of 86, tying with the Silent Hill 2 remake,” wrote Okamoto on X. “With Japan as the setting, Mr. Ryukishi07 handling the scenario, and a combat-focused game design, I had a feeling it might divide opinions given all the challenging elements, but I’m truly grateful for such high praise.”
Despite some varying opinions, the story has received widespread praise from the media, confirming that choosing Mr. Ryukishi07 was an excellent decision. I believe this is a work that both fans of Mr. Ryukishi07 and Silent Hill fans will love and happily share with others.
As I mentioned in the interview, we’re not planning for all future Silent Hill games to be like f. We want each installment to offer a unique gameplay experience, and we aim to consistently create a series that is challenging in a good way, offering something fresh with each new title. …
