If you’re familiar with games like Stories Unknown or Observation, you might have been surprised to see Screen Burn Interactive’s Silent Hill: Townfall at the State of Play event. The game’s presentation, built with Unreal Engine 5, boasts incredibly detailed graphics that look as good as major, big-budget titles. While it might seem like a small project, Annapurna Interactive has confirmed that Townfall is actually a substantial game.
In a recent update, Annapurna Interactive president Hector Sanchez described their upcoming Silent Hill project as one of the largest they’ve ever published. Leanne Loombe, head of games at Annapurna, also noted that despite being a small team of only 30 developers, Screen Burn has been given the time needed to fully bring their vision for the game, Townfall, to life.
She described the game as a complete and well-made title that the publisher is proud to release, positioning it as a successor to the upcoming remakes of Silent Hill f and Silent Hill 2. Jon McKellan, the writer and director, also expressed gratitude for fans’ understanding and promised to share more details soon.
This project is our biggest and most ambitious game so far, and it’s also a heartfelt tribute to the games that inspired us – and many on the team, including myself – to become game developers.
During the broadcast, McKellan shared that he played the original Silent Hill as a teenager, around age 17 or 18, while he was sick with a high fever. He felt the experience was so dreamlike that, even though he completed the game, he doesn’t want to revisit it and risk finding out if it actually happened as he remembers.
McKellan explained that he’s always been fascinated by the fog, and now believes their team is creating it and drawing others into the effect. He’s excited to share this immersive experience with fans soon.
The new Silent Hill game, Silent Hill: Townfall, is coming to PlayStation 5 and PC in 2026. It’s the first major installment in the series played from a first-person perspective. We’ll find out the exact release date and more details soon, as the developers plan to share updates in the coming months through future broadcasts.
