Silent Night, Deadly Night Reboot Is the Perfect New Tradition for Your Christmas Movie Binge

Most horror fans know the name Silent Night, Deadly Night, but it might not be familiar to everyone. The first movie came out in 1984, and since then, there have been five sequels, a remake in 2012, and a new version planned for 2025.

Directed by Mike P. Nelson, this film features Rohan Campbell as Billy Chapman, a man haunted by a voice that compels him to commit murder each day in December, culminating on Christmas. His life is disrupted when he meets Ruby Modine’s character, Pamela Sims, in a quiet town, and an unexpected love story begins.

TopMob was at the premiere of the new Silent Night, Deadly Night and chatted with the director, Mike P. Nelson, as well as stars Ruby Modine and David Tomlinson, and producer Jamie Thompson. Everyone agreed this film deserves to become a new Christmas tradition.

This Is Why Silent Night, Deadly Night Will Be Your New Yearly Holiday Watch

“There’s Not a Lot of Christmas Slasher Movies Out There.”

  • TopMob: “In your own words, why is this the perfect Christmas film for people to add to their traditional yearly watches?”

Ruby Modine: Because it’s not like any other thing.

Mike P. Nelson put it best: it truly stands on its own. It’s full of emotion, endearing qualities, intense action, and plenty of violence – and those are the elements that make things truly great.

Modine: With a splash of love…

Nelson hopes this movie will appeal to a wide audience, even people who don’t usually watch horror. He thinks its unique combination of genres and festive, Christmas-themed elements make it stand out. He plans to see it and is optimistic about how it will be received.

You know, as a big movie fan, I think what’s really cool about this film is how rare Christmas horror is. There just aren’t a ton of slasher movies set at Christmas, so it instantly stands out. Plus, it’s not just horror – it throws in a bunch of different styles, which makes it super unique and something I think a lot of people will make a tradition of watching every year.

Jamie Thompson believes this year is ideal for reviewing Christmas traditions because Hallmark movies have become synonymous with the holiday season, particularly over the last twenty years. They’ve essentially defined what many people think of when they picture Christmas movies.

Hallmark typically releases a large number of Christmas movies each year, and this film takes that familiar, cozy Hallmark style and blends it with the horror genre.

It’s not meant as a criticism of Mike’s work, actually, that’s what made it so unique – he took the typical heartwarming Christmas romance and flipped it into a scary horror story.
