Getting married was a huge step for Nikki and Jack, especially after fans had waited so long to see them finally get together. But in season 29, they take an even bigger leap: they buy a house together.
Nikki and Jack spent a long time wondering if they’d ever get together, sharing glances and a few kisses along the way. They finally became a couple, and in the season 27 finale, Jack proposed. They then got married in the season 28 finale, but not without facing some challenges beforehand.
Emilia Fox recently explained on The One Show that Jack is fully committed to planning their wedding, while Nikki feels overwhelmed by everything involved in arranging it.
“So she doesn’t even know where to begin.”
Her worries faded when they decided on a simple wedding at the courthouse. Kit watched as they exchanged vows, and Harriet stood by Jack’s side as his best man.
You know, when I heard Emilia Fox talking about this, it really clicked for me. It wasn’t that she was hiding anything about Jack, not at all! She was more thinking about what getting married means – like, how seriously you commit to someone, and whether you need a huge, flashy wedding to prove it, or if a smaller, more personal ceremony is the way to go. It’s a really thoughtful perspective, honestly.
It came down to rediscovering the core meaning of marriage for her and for both of them, and he really got that – which gave us a great foundation to work with.
In the latest episodes, which were delayed from airing last week, the couple is busy looking at houses after moving to a new city. The episodes follow them as they finally find and choose their dream home.
It looks like they made a good decision, as a friendly new neighbor stops by with flowers and a home-cooked meal. Despite all the conflict and disagreement shown in the previous episodes, these small acts of kindness offer a hopeful glimpse of community and remind you that people can be good.
Though Jack and his partner are happier and more secure than ever, and they’ve just received the keys to their new house—something to be celebrated—Jack’s happiness is quickly interrupted by a notification on his phone.

The video features Jack talking about Ross, the man who killed Destan – the partner of DI Kayla Baran – after Ross attacked her.
In a video, Jack falsely claims he was attacked from behind by an asylum seeker who arrived by boat, stating he was simply defending himself. He then calls himself a patriot, suggesting self-defense shouldn’t be considered a crime.
He points to the memorial for Destan, which is just outside the school where he’s standing, and says, “We’ve found one, but we need to find more.”
That video isn’t actually Jack; it’s a convincing fake created to intentionally create racial tension in the city, and Hamza Ahmed was also misled by it. The videos are being spread from two accounts traced back to a single server in Cyprus, which is controlled by someone in Russia.

The videos feature real social media posts from actual people, but they’ve been altered with AI. This includes content from a far-right group that Jack became involved with after meeting its members at the gym.
Detective Chief Inspector Jonno Magath was also involved with the group, but he started having doubts about what they were doing when some members began justifying murder.
And while Jack has tried to distance himself from them, it seems they’re not quite done with him.
David Caves explained that the challenges of his character’s job deeply impact him, and this is especially noticeable in the current series. In one particular storyline, Jack faces a difficult, deeply personal journey that he has to navigate on his own.
How that video impacts him long-term, both personally and professionally, remains to be seen.
