Simu Liu’s diamond ring wasn’t the only item that made his proposal shimmer. 

He was also hoping Taylor Swift would make an appearance. About seven months after getting engaged to Allison Hue, the Barbie actor revealed how Taylor Swift helped him finish writing his wedding vows.

Simu Liu, 36, shared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on December 15th that his fiancée is a big Taylor Swift fan. He explained that Taylor Swift’s music played a significant role when they first started dating, as he learned about his fiancée through her love of those songs. This inspired him to include Taylor Swift in their engagement somehow, making the moment even more meaningful.

The actor from Kim’s Convenience contacted Taylor Swift’s representative and asked if she could record a short congratulatory video for his future wife. He received a quick clip just two days later, with Taylor wishing Allison well as she and Simu began their life together.

Taylor Swift appearing was the perfect finishing touch. He playfully said it made him realize he should plan more events, explaining that his partner was incredibly touched by the surprise. She was already emotional, but when he showed her the video, she was completely overcome with emotion.

Oh my gosh, I was SO thrilled when I saw the news! She was absolutely glowing when she and Simu announced they were engaged back in May. I mean, seriously, they’re the cutest! They’ve been together since 2022, and when they posted those Instagram photos of them kissing in front of the Eiffel Tower in Paris… it was just perfect! Soon after posting a detailed picture of the jewelry, Simu shared a heartfelt message about Allison.

In an August 2023 Instagram post, he shared how she inspires him with her love of music – especially one artist – and teaches him to handle a hectic life with poise. He also noted her genuine care for everyone she knows, but most importantly, she’s shown him the importance of fighting for the people you love.
