Simu Liu’s Meeting With Robert Downey Jr. for Avengers: Doomsday Was Really Embarrassing

Simu Liu, star of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, recently talked with Jimmy Fallon on his show. He shared a funny story about his first time meeting Robert Downey Jr. on set, which happened under slightly awkward circumstances. Liu seemed a bit embarrassed while telling Fallon about it.

Avengers: Doomsday’s Simu Liu was embarrassed meeting Robert Downey Jr. in shorts

Simu Liu, who will soon be reprising his role as Shang-Chi in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie, recently appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. Fallon showed a picture of Liu with several Avengers cast members – Chris Hemsworth, Paul Rudd, Anthony Mackie, and Robert Downey Jr. – and it seems Liu unintentionally became the center of attention for a funny reason.

Simu Liu was meeting Robert Downey Jr. for the first time, and he definitely didn’t dress the part. While all the other actors wore normal outfits, Liu showed up in a pair of shockingly bright blue shorts, which got a laugh from everyone there.

Liu explained that this was the first time they’d met Robert Downey Jr., and they were really embarrassed to even be showing the moment to whoever they were talking to.

The actor explained that he was the only one filming that day and arrived on set dressed as you saw him. While filming, Robert Downey Jr. wanted to greet him, and he met Downey still in costume.

When he finally met Robert Downey Jr., the actor playfully said, “Well, look at you… that’s an interesting look.” This comment got a big laugh from the crowd.

Simu Liu will be in the new movie Avengers: Doomsday, set to release on December 18, 2026. He was recently seen in In Your Dreams, which debuted on Netflix in November.
