Yeah, Kody Brown knows he let his ex-wives down. So, is it too late to say sorry now?
Kody Brown, the head of the family in Sister Wives, is trying to make amends. He’s starting what he calls an apology tour, which will be shown in three parts on the TLC show, beginning with the December 7th episode.
Honestly, things have been so tense, we needed to find a way to make peace – all of us. That’s why I flew all the way to North Carolina to talk to Janelle. She’s just… she’s always been the one I could really open up to, the one I felt the safest with. It felt right to start trying to fix things with her. She deserved that, you know? It meant a lot to me that she was the one I chose to reach out to first.
Oh my gosh, when Kody explained why he chose that peace symbol, my heart just broke for him! He told Janelle he wanted to say sorry for being so… well, just so angry and bitter after everything fell apart with the family. He actually said nobody deserved to be on the receiving end of his anger, and honestly? It just showed how much pain he was in. It was like, he finally got it, you know? It was a really vulnerable moment, and I just… I understood it, even if others don’t. It was a beautiful attempt at making things right, even after everything.
Struggling with strained relationships with his former wives Janelle, Meri, and Christine, and their large family of 13 children, but maintaining good relationships with his current wife Robyn’s children – Dayton, Aurora, Breanna, Solomon, and Ariella – he decided to stop fighting and seek peace.
Kody admitted to Janelle that he’d been awful since their breakup – for about three or four years. He confessed he wasn’t truthful when he said he’d never loved his former partners. He specifically regretted telling Janelle he didn’t love her, explaining that it was a lie he told out of hurt and pain.
But that wasn’t the sole reason for his mea culpa.
In 1993, Kody, then 56, married Janelle, also 56, while still married to his first wife, Meri. He later admitted he’d made some errors specifically related to practicing plural marriage.

Looking back, Kody admits he wishes he’d realized how important it was to protect their relationship and create a safe space for them both. He feels he failed to do that, and that put the other person at risk. He regrets not being more protective.
Although they didn’t resolve their personal problems, both individuals acknowledged the challenges of having multiple spouses.
Janelle felt hurt that her husband didn’t always support her, especially early in their relationship. She explained that their differing personalities often led to conflict. Combined with feelings of jealousy and insecurity they were both dealing with, it created a difficult situation.
Shortly after getting married, she became pregnant with Logan Brown while Kody was frequently away for work. Janelle explained that his limited presence at home forced her to emotionally detach in order to cope with those difficult early years. Hearing him acknowledge how challenging that time was has been a healing experience for both of them.
Still, she’s learned to put all that ugliness in the past.
Janelle said she still has feelings for Kody, and believes he feels the same way. However, she doesn’t foresee them becoming close friends after their separation. She explained that they’ve completely gone their separate ways, and she wishes Kody had a stronger connection with their six children.
Should they need to interact in the future, Kody is hopefully it will be a bit less fiery.
He explained that when he asks Janelle, Meri, and Christine for forgiveness, he won’t be focused on regretting the past. Instead, he wants to remember the good times and acknowledge that they shared something special together.
Oh my gosh, he and his wives have been SO open this season! It’s like they’re just constantly sharing these amazing little insights into their lives, and honestly, I can’t get enough. Seriously, you HAVE to keep reading – there are even MORE incredible things they’ve revealed!

Now that she’s officially separated from her ex-husband, Kody Brown, Janelle Brown shared on the season 20 premiere of Sister Wives that she’s taking a similar approach to Meri Brown.
Though they were married for 29 years, Christine was never legally married to Kody. She explained on the show’s premiere that she’d considered a ‘spiritual divorce’ a long time ago but didn’t know it was possible. When Meri pursued one, Christine immediately asked her who she should contact to do the same.
Janelle’s former sister wife—who had been released from their church due to being abandoned—gladly provided some missing information. Janelle explained, ‘She’s been really helpful in reconnecting me with everyone.’

Madison Brush is still dealing with the fallout from her father’s actions. Despite being estranged from Kody, Madison—one of his six children with Janelle—shared on the September 28th episode that she continues to struggle with their separation.
Speaking candidly, the mother of four admitted she hopes her husband, Caleb Brush, will reconnect with his father. She explained that while she recognizes her own role in the situation, she’s frustrated because she’s still working on managing her expectations and avoiding disappointment.
She’s having a hard time accepting him as he is. She explained she’s working on understanding that he may not have known how to be there for her, and that he could be going through his own pain.
He also might not be willing to cede too much ground.
Kody expressed wanting to repair his relationships with Meri, Janelle, Christine Brown, and all of their children. He feels they’ve reached a standstill, stating that any progress depends entirely on them deciding if and how to move forward.

As a longtime follower of the Brown family, I was really struck by what Robyn shared on the show recently. She explained that she always dreamed of having a family, and it wasn’t just about Kody himself. She even mentioned she’d had other marriage proposals over the years – not always grand gestures, but several men had told her they’d be happy to marry her anytime. It was so interesting to hear her perspective on wanting that family unit, not just a romantic relationship.
She consistently stated her position: “I told him straight away that I was open to a plural marriage.” She added that if Kody hadn’t already been married with three wives, she would have given him the same answer.
Kody explained that, despite not planning to be exclusive, he and his current wife had become a couple, saying, ‘It’s just you and me now.’
Though he admittedly had one concern.
Kody hinted to Robyn that he desired a more fulfilling intimate life. He later explained in a private interview that he believed polygamy offered more satisfaction than a traditional, monogamous relationship, where he felt one partner might be left wanting.

Meri is actively dating and has a clear idea of what she wants in a partner. She’s looking for a tall man who enjoys traveling – a big priority for her, as she loves road trips. And importantly, he must be a dog person, not a cat person, she shared recently.
And she definitely needs someone who won’t scare easily.
She recounted a difficult dating experience, explaining that a man she was talking to ended the conversation as soon as he learned she practiced polygamy. He told her he wasn’t interested in continuing a relationship with someone who did, which she found very hurtful. She felt rejected simply because of her lifestyle.
Meri explained that it was the first time she truly understood that some people wouldn’t even want to speak with her because of who she was.

Janelle believes she was the only one in her large family who really wanted to claim property on Coyote Pass.
On the October 3rd episode, Janelle revealed she wasn’t sure she ever truly envisioned the whole family living on their 14-acre Coyote Pass property, which they bought before moving to Flagstaff, Arizona in 2018.
Although Kody’s second wife thought living there could work – she said it was a nice property and worth considering – she believed Kody and his other wives were only briefly interested in the idea.
She explained that no one was keen on living in that area, especially not Christine. Meri would have agreed to move if everyone else had, too.
Janelle observed that Kody and Robyn’s former property, a five-bedroom house on two acres that they recently sold for $1.7 million, felt unfinished despite being mostly built.
Janelle explained that despite all the initial excitement about dividing the land into four pieces, she quickly realized after moving to Flagstaff that it wouldn’t work out.

Kody believes he knows why his relationships with most of his adult children – excluding Robyn’s oldest, Dayton, and daughters Aurora and Breanna – aren’t very good.
He admitted on October 5th that he feels distant from his grown children. He explained that constant teasing and subtle jabs have created tension and damaged trust within the family.
And these days, not many of his grown kids are on Team Kody.
Even though Mykelti Padron, one of Christine’s six children, had seemed the most publicly supportive of her father, she shared her thoughts on the family split several months after she, her husband Tony Padron, and their three children moved to North Carolina.
She believes that if he simply took responsibility for his actions, at least some of his children might try to reconnect with him. During a fan Q&A in October 2024, shared on Instagram (@withoutacrystalball), she explained that instead of blaming his children, his other wife, their parents, or rumors, a simple apology and willingness to discuss his mistakes – like saying, ‘I understand I messed up. I’m sorry. Can we talk?’ – would make a huge difference.

As a long-time follower, it was really significant to see Janelle and Meri finally finalize their separation from Kody with the sale of Coyote Pass in April 2025. It felt like a clean break, and they both benefited financially. It reminded me that Christine had already made a similar deal – she gave up her share of the land to keep the money from selling her house in Arizona. It was a smart move for everyone involved, honestly.
On the October 5th episode, Janelle playfully told Meri it felt like a way of saying, “Goodbye, and I don’t expect to see you again.”
But she certainly wouldn’t have waved off an even nicer present.
She stated that if she had been legally married to Kody, she would have rightfully claimed half of his possessions, as they would have been considered jointly owned.

Before Kody and Robyn gave up on their plans for Coyote Pass, they first had to finalize the purchase of their new $2.1 million home. Kody explained on the October 12th episode that selling Coyote Pass only became possible once they decided they really wanted a different property. After months of discussing it with his former wives, they were finally able to move forward with the sale.
The father of 18 children is also looking forward to leaving behind painful memories from their old house. He explained, “We’ve gone through a lot of difficult times here, and we’re hoping for a fresh start, a completely new chapter in our lives.”

Kody believed he could love multiple wives, but admitted his attention wasn’t spread evenly among them. He explained on the October 19th episode that while he was committed to the idea of plural marriage and his family, he found it hard to fully dedicate himself to each wife individually, and felt they didn’t always fully support each other or him either.
He believes one of his mistakes was giving Robyn a lavish lifestyle – a $1.65 million, five-bedroom house – while his other wives had more modest living arrangements. Reflecting on the end of his marriages to Meri, Janelle, and Christine, he said he doesn’t understand what went wrong, but acknowledges that providing Robyn with such a nice home created jealousy. He felt he had gone to great lengths to ensure Robyn’s security, and his other wives struggled with that disparity.

Christine found it difficult to relax around Kody. As she explained on the October 26th episode, he was very demanding. He had many preferences and strict rules about things like what he ate, how he groomed himself, and other details.
Bottom line, she noted, “It was a lot.”
Janelle isn’t interested in starting a new relationship anytime soon, especially after her breakup with Kody. She admitted to Christine and her husband, David Woolley, that being with Kody was exhausting, and she believes relationships in general require a lot of effort.
She’s really pushing back against David’s suggestion that she join FarmersOnly. In a conversation with the show’s cameras, she explained, “David just doesn’t understand that I’m not interested in dating right now. I keep telling him, ‘No, no, no!'”

Kody generally avoided accidentally calling his wives by the wrong name. As Christine explained on the November 2nd episode, he almost never made that mistake. She described how painful it would be to hear another wife’s name in a private moment, and confirmed that this never occurred.
Though there were some close calls.
I often found myself doing that,” Kody confessed. “I definitely have, and I sometimes even initiated the conflicts before changing direction.

To hear Christine tell it, she felt quite stabbed in the kidney by her former sister wife.
She told David on the November 2nd episode that she felt deeply betrayed by Robyn, explaining she’d lost all trust in her. She shared that she used to confide in Robyn, but Robyn would then reveal those private conversations to Kody, causing problems and making him angry. Because of this, she stopped sharing anything personal with Robyn.
But Robyn insisted she was just trying to play marriage counselor.
Christine often told me she wished Kody understood what she was going through and the difficulties she was facing. I was young and thought I could fix things, but looking back, I realize I should have let them handle it themselves.

Although Meri used to be flattered by Kody treating her as his preferred former wife, she wasn’t interested in chatting with him when he video-called about possibly selling their house in Arizona.
He reflected on his conversation with Janelle, recalling a time when he helped Meri move to Parowan, Utah, and everything seemed friendly and enjoyable. He noted that their relationship has become strained since then.
However, Meri maintained she was only concentrating on work, especially after hearing what Kody had shared on camera in earlier seasons.
I had to be firm and set clear limits with him,” she said. “It’s frustrating when he acts like everything is okay on these video calls, being friendly as if nothing happened, especially after everything he’s said about me and my friends. I won’t tolerate that.

Christine happily said yes when David proposed in 2023, but her ex-husband believes he should have been consulted before the proposal.
Kody explained that his youngest daughter, Truely, lives with David, and he feels he should get to know him better.
In fact, he mused, he “should have had the right, even, to discriminate David.”

Janelle was happy to get her part of the Coyote Pass property back and wasn’t upset about the money she’d already given to Robyn and Kody for their house in Arizona.
She explained on the November 2nd episode that her children think she should try to recover the money she invested in Robyn’s house, but she anticipates a difficult legal battle to do so.
She explained that trying to get money from Kody is difficult because he always has a long list of excuses for why he doesn’t owe it.
He felt he’d already fulfilled his obligation to Janelle. He explained, “Janelle helped us buy our house, and I paid her back in January.” He recalled that she told him shortly after, either in January or February, “We’re even – you’ve more than covered it.”

Should Kody still be interested in having his love multiplied, there’s no shortage of options.
He told Robyn on November 2nd that he’d received another email from a woman inquiring about plural marriage.
He told Robyn that his former wife was upset with his decision to end their plural marriage. Then, surprisingly, she offered to become part of their family, essentially asking if she could get to know him and Robyn with the intention of joining their relationship.
Robyn didn’t immediately dismiss the idea. She later confessed that for a moment, she actually considered it, thinking it might be exactly what she’d always hoped for and wondering if it would be a good fit.
Ultimately, though, it was a no.
She was upset they contacted Kody directly. She believes it’s generally considered improper to pursue a married man, and you should always approach things through his wives.

Kody admits his strained relationship with his child is a major family problem, but he needs to make significant changes to improve things.
On a recent episode of the show, Janelle revealed that Maddie didn’t tell her father, Kody, about her fourth pregnancy. Janelle explained that there was no need to inform him, as they hadn’t spoken in two or three years. She added that he would eventually find out.

Janelle didn’t just want a relationship with Kody; she also wanted to be part of the existing family. Meri recalled that when Janelle married Kody three years into his marriage with Meri – after a short marriage to Meri’s brother – Janelle seemed considerate of her feelings. According to Meri, Janelle made an effort to include her and avoid causing her pain.
Meri admitted that she felt jealous and confused as they navigated the challenges of trying to make plural marriage work. She also shared that Kody’s willingness to try and include her in the process made her feel valued.

Meri is known for speaking her mind, but things became difficult when her family decided to sell Coyote Pass – the 14-acre property they bought after relocating to Arizona.
During the November 16th episode, Meri said the main problem seemed to be making sure the property paperwork was correctly registered in everyone’s names. She added that she didn’t understand why it wasn’t simply signed over properly.
She was also puzzled by another of Kody’s moves.
She explained, clearly upset, that he was blaming her for the delays and claiming she was the cause of the problem. She clarified that the real issue was their insistence on her signing a confidentiality agreement, which she refused to do. She questioned their motives, asking why they were trying to prevent her from speaking openly.
To hear Robyn tell it, though, their discussions were nothing to howl about.
Meri and I have always been able to speak openly and honestly with each other,” she said. “I was simply trying to understand what she needed, and I always want what’s best for her.

Christine says having more money has made life much easier. As a mother of six, she clearly remembers the stress of not having enough money for even basic things like groceries.
She explained that it’s really awkward when you get to the register and realize you’ve spent more money than you have. You might be able to write a check, but it would likely bounce, forcing you to return items to stay within your budget.
Other times they had to walk back plans to pay for certain essentials.
Meri explained that they used to have regular meetings – either weekly or monthly – to decide which bill was the most urgent to pay.

Robyn was determined to ensure everyone received a fair share of the money from the sale of Coyote Pass. As she explained on the November 23rd episode, she insisted that she, Kody, Janelle, and Meri each get 25% of the profits, and she didn’t hesitate to strongly disagree with Kody to make that happen. She admitted they had several heated arguments about it.
Ultimately, Kody explained that when the 14-acre property was sold in April 2025, they decided to simply divide the proceeds equally – giving each person 25 percent.

Janelle didn’t directly say Kody had a mid-life crisis, but she mentioned on the November 23rd episode that his behavior changed after he turned a significant age.
Janelle explained that around the time Kody turned 50 and was married to his fourth wife, Robyn, he began to complain about the burden of supporting the entire family. She believes he felt like Robyn was his true soulmate and that maintaining four marriages had become too tiring for him.
But Kody took issue with the idea that he didn’t put in the work.
He firmly stated that he always fulfilled his duties within the family. He consistently gave his all and felt unsupported in return by other family members.
He joked that dealing with his three divorces felt like everyone was going through menopause at the same time. He explained it by saying men can experience hormonal changes too, and he likely lost the motivation to put in effort as his testosterone levels dropped.

When Janelle Brown’s mother, Sheryl Usher, discovered her daughter was considering plural marriage, she initially tried to dissuade her, fearing a dangerous situation. Janelle explained that her mom “came to save me from the polygamists.” However, in a surprising turn of events, Sheryl ended up marrying Kody Brown’s father, Winn Brown, just three months before Janelle and Kody tied the knot in October 1992.
Their marriage definitely made the family relationships more complex. Janelle admitted she initially worried about how to explain it, but she accepted it. It felt a little strange at first, but ultimately she was glad to have another person to share things with.

Ysabel Brown says she wishes she’d had more one-on-one time with her father, Kody. On a recent episode of the show, she explained that she and her dad aren’t particularly close.
Ysabel explained that her mom is amazing at being both a mother and a father, and her stepfather, David, is also wonderful.
Despite their difficulties, Ysabel didn’t say her relationship with Kody was broken. “He’s still my dad, and I love him,” she explained.

Though Janelle still feels the family had something special, that spark wasn’t apparent early on.
Janelle felt hurt that her ex-husband didn’t always support her, especially early in their relationship, often siding with others instead. Combined with existing issues like jealousy and insecurity, this created a difficult dynamic for them to navigate.
Janelle Brown became pregnant with her first child, Logan, less than a year after marrying Kody, and at a time when he was often away for work. She recalls that his frequent travels meant she had to prioritize keeping things calm, and in doing so, she felt she lost touch with who she was.
