Before Kody Brown could sell the 14-acre Coyote Pass property – land he previously owned with his wives Robyn, Meri, Janelle, and Christine – some complications arose.
Okay, so it was all about the land in Flagstaff, Arizona, and how it was divided up between all of us in the family. Honestly, it was driving me crazy! On the show, I was just trying to explain that all we needed to do was get our names officially on the right parts of the property. It sounds so simple, but it became this huge thing, and I honestly don’t understand why it was so difficult to just get it signed over! It was so frustrating to watch it drag on and on.
Her former spouse posited one theory.
Before the sale in April, we received a written offer,” said the father of 18. “However, we were still working on the legal documents to ensure all four of us had equal ownership of the property.”
The 56-year-old explained that finalizing the deal took much longer than expected, because there were many details to work out and negotiations happened through lawyers, causing a lot of back-and-forth.
His first wife doesn’t necessarily agree with that take, but she can’t say much more.
She explained, clearly upset, that he was blaming her for the delays and claiming she was the cause of the problem. She said this was because they wanted her to sign a confidentiality agreement she wasn’t comfortable with, and she questioned why they were trying to prevent her from speaking openly about the situation.

Kody didn’t address rumors about a non-disclosure agreement, but he confirmed he’d been talking privately with his second wife, Janelle.
He explained that after they accepted the offer, Janelle became concerned about the buyer backing out. She then pressured him to either fully meet the other party’s demands or push the sale through regardless. He ended up feeling like he was secretly negotiating with Janelle behind everyone’s back.
And the 56-year-old mom of six admits she didn’t fully shut Kody out.
Janelle recalled Kody saying he could sell something even without Meri’s permission. She responded that he was right – he absolutely could do that.
If he’d actually gone through with threatening Meri and making her sign the non-disclosure agreement, she would have been completely unable to speak out.
I’m truly devastated that things have reached this point,” she said. “I never expected these people to treat me this way. It makes me wonder if they saw any of my humanity at all.”
To hear Kody tell it, that was the same question Robyn asked.
He explained that when his last wife discovered his scheme, she questioned who he had become, saying, “You’re not the man I fell in love with.” He also admitted that if a wife ever left him, he would buy her a house nearby so their children could remain close, and that he would be generous to her even then, leaving her wondering where the man she knew had gone.
Kody shared, “It’s amazing how loving someone can inspire you to want to improve yourself.”
And that path forward started with moving a metaphorical mountain.
Robyn was furious when she found out about Kody’s secret deal. She told him, ‘I’m not backing down. I’m not doing anything until everything is handled fairly and legally. I’m not selling the land, and you’ll have to go through me.’
Despite that public display of support, her friendship with former best friend Meri has completely fallen apart.
Meri believes rebuilding her friendship with Robyn would require starting over completely. She explained that Robyn’s loyalty lies with Kody, which Meri respects, but she doesn’t share that same loyalty. To move forward, they’d need to have some difficult and honest talks, as there’s currently no trust between them.
This is just one difficult reality Christine Brown and her fellow cast members have revealed during the twentieth season of Sister Wives. Read on to discover more of what they’ve shared.

Now officially separated from her ex-husband, Kody Brown, Janelle Brown shared on the season 20 premiere of Sister Wives that she’s taking a similar approach to Meri Brown.
Though they were married for 29 years, Kody and Christine were never legally married. Christine explained on the show’s premiere that she’d considered a ‘spiritual divorce’ years ago but didn’t know it was possible. When Meri pursued one, Christine asked her who she needed to contact to do the same.
Janelle’s former sister wife—who had previously been released from their church due to feeling abandoned—was happy to provide some missing information. Janelle explained, ‘She’s been helping me reconnect with everyone.’

Madison Brush is still dealing with the fallout from her father’s actions and choices. Despite being estranged from her dad, Kody, Madison—one of his six children with Janelle—shared on a recent episode of the show that she continues to struggle with their separation.
The mother of four admitted she hopes her husband’s father will be present, and that she desires a resolution to their strained relationship. She acknowledged her own role in the situation, but expressed frustration as she continues to work on managing her expectations and avoiding disappointment.
She’s having a hard time accepting him as he is. She explained that she’s working on understanding he may not have known how to be there for her, and that he could be going through his own pain.
He also might not be willing to cede too much ground.
Okay, so Kody keeps saying he wants things to be better with Meri, Janelle, and especially Christine – my queen, honestly! – and the kids, but it’s so frustrating! He basically admitted they’re at a standstill because, get this, they have to decide if healing is even possible. It’s like he wants them to fix things, but only if they do it his way, or on their terms as he puts it, which feels… manipulative? Ugh, it’s just so complicated, and I’m completely invested in seeing Christine and the kids happy!

Robyn Brown, Kody’s last remaining wife, says she always desired a family, not just a relationship with Kody himself. In the September 28th episode, she shared that she’d received marriage proposals before, though not always formal ones. She explained that several men had told her they would marry her quickly if she’d have them.
She consistently stated her position: “I told him right away that I was open to a plural marriage.” She added that if Kody hadn’t already been married with three wives, she would have given him the same answer.
Kody explained that, despite not planning to be exclusive, he and his partner had unintentionally become a monogamous couple, playfully declaring, “It’s just you and me now.”
Though he admittedly had one concern.
Oh my gosh, did you hear what Kody said to Robyn? It was… everything. He basically admitted he wants more intimacy, and then, in his little confession, he just laid it all out there! He thinks being in a polygamous relationship means he gets everything he could ever want, while people in regular, monogamous relationships are always left wanting more. It’s just… ugh, it’s so Kody, isn’t it? Always about what he wants. I’ve replayed that clip like a million times, honestly.

I’ve been watching Meri, and it’s so clear what she wants in a partner! She’s really putting herself out there, and she’s said a few things that really resonate with me. She definitely has a type – tall is a must! But beyond that, it’s all about shared adventures. She’s a huge traveler, like me, and really wants someone who loves road trips as much as she does. And honestly, I get the no-cats thing – she’s a total dog person, and it’s important to find someone who feels the same!
And she definitely needs someone who won’t scare easily.
I’ve heard from so many people about the challenges of dating, and it’s always heartbreaking to hear about judgment. I was recently sharing a story with someone about a dating experience where, as soon as I mentioned I practice polygamy, this guy immediately shut down the conversation. He basically said it wasn’t something he was open to, and honestly, it really stung. It’s tough when someone dismisses you simply because of your relationship style – it feels like they’re not seeing you, just focusing on a label.
Meri explained that it was the first time she truly understood that some people wouldn’t even want to speak with her because of who she was.

Janelle believes she was the only one in her large family who really wanted to claim property on Coyote Pass.
On the October 3rd episode of the show, Janelle revealed she wasn’t sure she ever truly envisioned the whole family living on their 14-acre property, Coyote Pass, which they bought before moving to Flagstaff, Arizona in 2018.
Although Kody’s second wife thought living there could work – she said it was a nice property and wondered why not – she believed her ex-husband and his other wives were only briefly interested in the idea.
She explained that no one was eager to live in that location, especially not Christine. Meri would have agreed to move if everyone else had been willing.
Janelle explained that Kody and Robyn’s former property, a two-acre home with five bedrooms that they recently sold for $1.7 million, felt unfinished despite being mostly built.
You know, when my family first moved to Flagstaff, we inherited a piece of land that had been divided into four sections. Everyone was really excited about it initially, but honestly, I quickly realized it wasn’t going to work out that way. I just had a feeling right away that trying to maintain those separate parcels wasn’t realistic for us.

Kody believes he knows why his relationships with most of his adult children (except Robyn’s oldest, Dayton, and daughters Aurora and Breanna) aren’t very good.
He admitted on October 5th that his relationships with his adult children are difficult. He explained that constant teasing and subtle jabs have created problems with trust and loyalty for everyone involved.
And these days, not many of his grown kids are on Team Kody.
Even though Mykelti Padron, one of Christine’s six children, had seemed the most publicly supportive of her father, she shared her thoughts on the family split several months after she, her husband Tony Padron, and their three children moved to North Carolina.
She believes that if he simply took responsibility for his actions, at least some of his children would try to reconnect with him. During a fan Q&A in October 2024, shared on Instagram (@withoutacrystalball), she explained that instead of blaming his kids, his other wife, their parents, or rumors, a simple apology and willingness to discuss his mistakes – like saying, ‘I understand I messed up. I’m sorry. Can we talk?’ – would make a huge difference.

When Coyote Pass was sold in April 2025, Janelle and Meri finalized their separation from Kody and received a financial benefit. Christine had previously transferred her share of the land to keep the money from selling her house in Arizona.
On the October 5th episode, Janelle playfully told Meri it felt like saying, “Goodbye, and I don’t expect to see you again.”
But she certainly wouldn’t have waved off an even nicer present.
She stated that if she had been legally married to Kody, she would have rightfully claimed half of his possessions, as they would have been considered jointly owned.

Kody and Robyn had to finalize the purchase of their new $2.1 million home before they could give up on their plans for Coyote Pass. Kody explained on the October 12th episode that selling Coyote Pass only became possible once they found a different house they truly wanted.
The father of 18 children is also looking forward to leaving behind the painful memories associated with their old house. He explained, “We’ve gone through a lot of difficult times here, and we’re hoping for a fresh start, a completely new chapter in our lives.”

Kody believed he could love multiple wives, but he admitted his attention wasn’t spread evenly among them. On the October 19th episode of the show, he explained that he struggled to fully commit to each wife, and felt they didn’t always fully commit to him or to each other as a family.
Looking back, he realized one mistake was giving Robyn a luxurious life – a $1.65 million, five-bedroom house – while his other wives had more modest living arrangements. He admitted he didn’t understand why his marriages to Meri, Janelle, and Christine ended, but he believed the house created jealousy. He felt his wives were upset that he went to great lengths to provide for Robyn’s security and comfort, more so than he had for them.

Christine found it challenging to relax around Kody. As she explained on the October 26th episode, he was a very demanding husband with many particular preferences – from what he ate to how he groomed himself, everything had to be just so.
Bottom line, she noted, “It was a lot.”
Janelle isn’t eager to jump into another relationship after her breakup with Kody. She admitted to Christine and her husband, David Woolley, that being with Kody was exhausting, and she believes relationships in general require a lot of effort.
That’s why she’s pushing back against David’s suggestions that she join FarmersOnly. She explained to the cameras, ‘David just doesn’t accept that I’m not interested in dating right now. I keep telling him, ‘No, no, no!”

As a longtime viewer, I remember Christine talking about this on the show. She explained that Kody was usually really careful not to accidentally call her by another wife’s name. She specifically said it never happened that she’d hear him use a different wife’s name when he was talking to her, and that those moments would have been incredibly hurtful if it had. It was a really sensitive topic, and she emphasized how much it meant to her that he avoided those slip-ups.
Though there were some close calls.
I often found myself doing that,” Kody confessed. “I definitely have, and I sometimes initiated conflicts only to change direction later.

To hear Christine tell it, she felt quite stabbed in the kidney by her former sister wife.
She told David on the November 2nd episode that she felt deeply betrayed by Robyn, explaining that she’d lost all trust in her. She’d shared private things with Robyn, only to find out that information would get her into trouble with Kody, who would then get angry. Because of this, she stopped sharing anything personal with Robyn.
But Robyn insisted she was just trying to play marriage counselor.
Christine often told me she wished Kody understood what she was going through, saying, ‘I’m really struggling with this.’ I was young and thought I could fix things, but now I realize it would have been better to let them handle it themselves.

Meri used to be flattered by the idea that Kody favored her over his other former wives, but when he tried to chat over video about selling their house in Arizona, she wasn’t interested in being friendly.
He reflected on a conversation with Janelle, saying he wasn’t sure what caused the change in their relationship with Meri. He remembered helping her move to Parowan, Utah, and at the time, everything was friendly and positive. But since then, things have become strained and awkward.
However, Meri maintained she was only interested in business matters, especially after hearing Kody’s comments on camera in earlier seasons.
I had to be firm and set clear limits with him,” she said. “It’s frustrating when he acts like everything is okay on these video calls, being friendly as if nothing happened, especially after the hurtful things he’s said about me and my friends. I won’t tolerate that behavior.

Christine happily accepted David’s marriage proposal last year, but her ex-husband believes he should have been consulted beforehand.
It just… it kills me to think about it. My little Truely, my youngest with Christine, she lives with David! He’s raising her! And Kody just casually says he ‘should know David’ – like it’s a normal thing! It’s not normal! He’s practically her dad now, and he acts like he barely knows him! It’s just… upsetting.
In fact, he mused, he “should have had the right, even, to discriminate David.”

Janelle was happy to get her part of Coyote Pass back and wasn’t upset about the money she’d already given Robyn and Kody towards their house in Arizona.
She explained on the November 2nd episode that her children think she should try to recover the money she invested in Robyn’s house, but she anticipates it will be difficult.
She explained that if she tried to get money from Kody, he would always find a way to avoid paying, claiming he didn’t owe it.
Okay, so he seriously acted like he’d already paid Janelle back for helping them with the house! He kept saying, ‘Janelle helped us buy, but I took care of it back in January.’ And then, get this, he claims she told him – in January or February, right after he supposedly paid her – that everything was square! She literally said, ‘We’re good, it was more than fair!’ It’s just… infuriating how he’s framing this, like she’s the one being unreasonable. He’s twisting everything!

Should Kody still be interested in having his love multiplied, there’s no shortage of options.
He told Robyn on November 2nd that he’d received another email from a woman inquiring about plural marriage.
Okay, so get this – one of my ex-wives was actually scolding me for wanting to leave polygamy! Can you believe the nerve? And then, right after that, she… she offered to stay! She was basically telling me I was wrong to change things, and then, like, hinting she’d be open to becoming more involved with us, you know, joining our family. I told Robyn, and it’s just… weird. So weird. She was calling me out, and then practically volunteering to be part of things still. It’s a lot to process, honestly.
Robyn didn’t immediately dismiss the idea. She later confessed that for a moment, she actually considered it, thinking it could be exactly what she’d always hoped for and wondering if it would be a good fit.
Ultimately, though, it was a no.
She was upset they contacted Kody directly. She believes it’s generally more respectful to approach someone through their wives, rather than contacting them directly.

Kody admits his fractured relationship with his children is a major family issue, but he needs to make significant changes to improve things.
As a lifestyle expert, I’ve seen families navigate all sorts of dynamics, and the latest from the Brown family is definitely interesting. On a recent episode, Maddie’s fourth pregnancy came up, and Janelle shared something pretty significant – Maddie hasn’t even told Kody she’s expecting! Janelle explained there wasn’t much point in including him, as they haven’t spoken in a couple of years – maybe two or three. It just highlights how relationships can evolve, and sometimes, family communication shifts dramatically.

Janelle didn’t just want a relationship with Kody; she also wanted to be part of the existing family. Meri recalled that when Janelle married Kody three years into his marriage with Meri—and after a short marriage to Meri’s brother—Janelle seemed very considerate of her feelings. Meri said Janelle acted in a way that made her feel included and protected from hurt.
Meri admitted that she felt jealous and a mix of other emotions as they navigated the challenges of trying to make their plural marriage work. She also shared that it made her feel cherished that her partner was willing to put in the effort.

Meri is known for speaking her mind, but things became complicated when her family agreed to sell Coyote Pass—the 14-acre property they bought after relocating to Arizona.
During the November 16th episode, Meri said the problem seemed to be about making sure the correct people were listed as owners on the properties. She added that she didn’t understand why the paperwork couldn’t have simply been signed and finalized.
She was also puzzled by another of Kody’s moves.
She explained, clearly upset, that he was blaming her for the delays, claiming she was the reason things weren’t moving forward. She said the real issue was their insistence that she sign a confidentiality agreement, which she refused to do. She questioned why they were trying to prevent her from speaking openly about the situation.
To hear Robyn tell it, though, their discussions were nothing to howl about.
Meri and I have always been able to talk openly and honestly with each other,” she said. “I was simply trying to understand what she needed, and I always want what’s best for her.

Christine says having more money has made life much easier. As a mother of six, she vividly remembers the stress of not having enough money for even basic groceries.
I completely relate to that feeling – it’s so mortifying when you get to the register and realize you’ve gone over budget! It’s not just about having to put things back, it’s the dread of knowing a bounced check is coming. It’s a really tough spot to be in.
Other times they had to walk back plans to pay for certain essentials.
Meri explained that they used to have regular meetings – either weekly or monthly – to decide which bill was the most urgent to pay.
