Sister Wives’ Mykelti Responds to Criticism of Her Kids’ iPad Usage

Mykelti Brown Padron does not appreciate mom criticism culture.

Gwendlyn, one of Kody and Christine Brown’s children from the show Sister Wives, responded to criticism about how she and her husband, Tony Padron, entertained their kids on a recent road trip. Some people questioned her decision to give her daughter, Avalon, age 4, and her 3-year-old twin sons, Archer and Ace, iPads to use during the travel.

Mykelti recently revealed she’s been receiving a lot of hateful messages. In an Instagram video posted on January 8th, she explained she’s gotten a large number of negative direct messages.

As I was driving to my sister’s house, I was keeping myself entertained with my Kindle and phone. My husband, Tony, was listening to a podcast.

As the reality star explained, she and Tony—who tied the knot in 2016—were “entertained.”

She also mentioned giving her kids iPads to keep them occupied during the four-hour drive, saying they were able to enjoy the trip and were doing well.

Mykelti was taken aback by all the negative feedback, especially since she noted that adults commonly use technology for entertainment.

She admitted to using her phone while riding in cars, jokingly calling herself a ‘passenger princess’ – someone who does nothing but enjoy the ride.

She didn’t appreciate the criticism, explaining that mothers already face intense judgment when they simply try to keep their children entertained.

Following her response, many in Mykleti’s comments were in full agreement.

“Seriously??” one user wrote. “Who isn’t giving their children a iPad or smart phone on drives??”

You know, something someone recently told me really resonated. They said, and I totally agree, that you don’t need to justify your choices to anyone. We’re all just figuring things out, doing the best we can to get through life. It’s such a freeing thought, isn’t it?

One person pointed out how absurd it is that people are leaving hateful comments online, especially considering they’re doing it from their phones. They specifically mentioned not understanding the negativity some mothers have towards iPads.

Since becoming a mother, Mykelti has openly shared with her followers about the challenges she’s faced and the intense pressure she feels to be a perfect mom. She also admits to feeling guilty when things are tough.

She shared on Instagram in August that she often gets frustrated with herself when things go wrong. She explained that her reactions vary – sometimes she yells, sometimes she cries and needs a moment to herself, and other times she simply removes herself from the situation by watching TV. She emphasized that these reactions are perfectly normal.

But the TLC star often reminds herself “this is my first time being a mom.”

She admitted she was new to motherhood and that there’s no such thing as a perfect parent. She’s learned to be kind to herself when things aren’t ideal, understanding that as long as her children are happy and healthy, and she’s helping them grow and make memories, she’s doing a wonderful job – and is the best mom for them.
