Skate’s Free-to-Play Revival Rides into Early Access on PS5, PS4 in September

The duo, EA and game developer Full Circle, have at last unveiled the launch date for the revival of the cherished Skate series.

The social, open-world skateboarding simulation game, available for free, is scheduled to be released in early access on September 16th, 2025. This launch will support both the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 platforms.

The exact date for the complete release of the game is still undetermined, however, it’s likely that the early access period will continue for some time.

Back in 2020, it was announced that Skate was making its comeback, a wait many fans have been anticipating. With persistent requests from the community to resurrect the series, Electronic Arts (EA) eventually agreed and has been dedicatedly working on this revival for nearly five years now.

Over the past few years, the game developed by Full Circle Studios has been made available to a group of chosen beta testers outside their immediate team. This helped them collect valuable information and opinions from the gaming community as they refined and developed the game.

Now, the game will soon be available for everyone to play, albeit in early access form.

The game is not yet concluded; instead, it will progressively develop further, influenced by input from a broader spectrum of players.

The game is called Skate and it operates continuously online, offering free play. This live service game is set within an open-world city named San Vansterdam, which will change over time, similar to how a battle royale map might evolve in Fortnite.

The structure of the game is intentionally flexible, allowing you to explore freely after completing the tutorial, essentially enabling you to skate around at your own pace.

In this setup, you’ll join a multiplayer open world, where up to 149 other participants will be present. The essence is that you can casually skate along with others, fostering a free and fluid interaction.

Scattered throughout are numerous tasks and hurdles, successful completion of which will grant access to more missions and aesthetic prizes.

Not only can you take advantage of editing tools to generate and distribute content, but there are specific locations on the map intended for you to design engaging paths with adjustable geometry and decorative elements. Moreover, you’re able to make use of a replay function, allowing you to record your exceptional skating skills from multiple viewpoints.

In this free game, you’ll find various in-game purchases like microtransactions and loot boxes, designed to encourage players who wish to spend money for additional features or items.

Indeed, based on our observations, all items available in the in-game shop are purely for aesthetic purposes. It’s not necessary to spend money unless you specifically desire a certain costume or deck.

In addition to this, you have the opportunity to accumulate a good amount of cosmetic items just by playing frequently, ensuring you won’t run out of choices.
