The much-anticipated free-to-play reboot of Electronic Arts’ iconic skateboarding franchise, affectionately known as Skate, is gearing up for its early access release soon. As we move closer to this significant moment, the developers at Full Circle have released another developer diary blog post to keep you updated.
Now available for your reading pleasure is The Grind Vol. 5! This volume delves into topics such as personalization, music, and notably, the studio’s post-release strategies for seasonal updates.
The blog uncovers more than a million individuals took part in the most recent playtest, but we anticipate that figure will be significantly surpassed once early access becomes available.
Regardless, the game offers numerous personalization choices, and it’s important to note that many of these can be acquired simply by playing frequently. Although there are cosmetic items available for purchase with actual currency, they are never compulsory.
By participating in missions and tasks within the game, you’ll accumulate Rip Chips, rewards that can exclusively be obtained through gameplay. These chips can later be utilized in the store to purchase Product Boxes – essentially mystery boxes containing a single random item from a predefined collection of rewards. As a result, with continuous play, you will eventually acquire every item available.
Opening boxes increases your Rip Score, which in turn unlocks yet more cosmetic items.
Meanwhile, the soundtrack for this game boasts an impressive collection of 100 songs from a diverse range of artists such as Turnstile, Denzel Curry, Little Simz, Skegss, Earth Wind & Fire, and MF Doom. As new seasons roll out, additional tunes will be introduced into the game.
In terms of the seasons, each is expected to span approximately three months, resulting in four distinct seasonal changes occurring every year within Skate.
Every season in San Vansterdam city will witness fresh alterations, featuring an array of new events, gaming aspects, tunes, and additional surprises.
There will also be a Skate Pass per season, each with a free and premium track to progress.
Season 1 will get started shortly after early access begins.
It sounds like more details on seasons is coming in the next dev diary.
Are you excited to jump onto Skate as soon as it becomes available? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.
