Sky has released a new trailer for its upcoming series, ‘Amadeus,’ which offers a fresh take on the life and music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
This six-episode series is adapted from Peter Shaffer’s play and features Will Sharpe, known for his role in ‘The White Lotus’, as a remarkably talented musician.
Paul Bettany, known for his role in WandaVision, plays Antonio Salieri, a composer filled with envy. Gabrielle Creevy, who has appeared in In My Skin and Black Doves, portrays Constanze Weber, Mozart’s devoted wife.
It has also now been confirmed that Amadeus will launch on Sky and NOW on 21st December.
Written by Joe Barton, the series tells the story of a brilliant composer’s life and a fictional feud with his contemporary, Salieri.
The latest trailer offers a glimpse of the rivalry between Mozart and Salieri, highlighted by Mozart’s defiant line: “Just because you’re stuck repeating old operas doesn’t mean I have to.”
The scene cuts to several angles of Mozart leading the orchestra, accompanied by Salieri’s voiceover: “This awful man. He plays as if controlled by something beyond himself.”
Mozart playfully plays the piano, then glances at a piece of music and exclaims, “Ugh, who wrote this?” The camera pans to Salieri, who is clearly offended.

The film Amadeus opens with Mozart, a 25-year-old composer, arriving in Vienna, the center of the music world. He’s eager to move beyond being known as a child star and establish himself as a truly independent artist.
Soon, though, he clashes with Salieri, the court’s well-regarded composer, who is disturbed by Mozart’s extraordinary, seemingly natural talent.
Salieri sees Mozart as a danger to all that’s important to him – his own skills, how others see him, and even his beliefs about God.
Spanning three decades, this story follows the troubled connection between two men, eventually leading to a murder confession and Salieri’s fervent desire to be remembered alongside Mozart.

The show boasts a talented cast, including Rory Kinnear (known for ‘The Diplomat’) as Emperor Joseph, Lucy Cohu (from ‘Becoming Jane’) as Cecilia Weber, and Jonathan Aris (‘The Sixth Commandment’) playing Leopold Mozart.
Sharpe has discussed how he prepared to play Mozart, telling TopMob he focused on the composer’s music. Since there’s no video footage of the real Mozart, Sharpe used the music to understand his personality, noting that it could be both powerful and somber, yet also gentle and cheerful – reflecting the surprising contrasts within Mozart’s character.
