In recent years, Slow Horses has become a standout spy series. With a large ensemble cast, characters often come and go, making it a consistently engaging watch for fans. Apple TV+ has released five seasons of the show so far.
Though the main actors in Slow Horses have stayed with the show since the beginning, many guest stars have appeared over the years. One of those actors now stars in House of the Dragon, the first spin-off from Game of Thrones. Fans of Slow Horses should definitely watch this excellent thriller series on Prime Video, led by that same actor.
Olivia Cooke Is Fantastic In The Girlfriend
Olivia Cooke played a key role in the first season of the popular Apple TV+ series, helping to launch its success. She portrayed Sid Baker, a character whose fate at the end of her storyline was left uncertain. Since finishing her work on Slow Horses, Cooke has appeared in several notable projects, including the TV shows House of the Dragon and The Girlfriend.
Although many people know about the Game of Thrones prequel, those who enjoy Slow Horses should also check out Cooke’s new thriller series. In The Girlfriend, Cooke stars as Cherry Laine, who finds herself entangled in a complicated and manipulative relationship with her boyfriend’s mother, Laura (played by Robin Wright).
In The Girlfriend, Cooke delivers a standout performance. Cherry is the focus as the play explores a conflict between two women. The actress skillfully portrays Cherry as likable to her boyfriend’s friends and family, but also gives a powerful and dramatic performance as Cherry’s hidden history and determination to get what she wants are revealed.
Why The Girlfriend Is One Of Prime Video’s Best Thriller Series
Although this thriller isn’t about spies or political intrigue like Slow Horses, it’s just as captivating. Like that show, The Girlfriend has only six episodes, making it a quick binge-watch. Each episode is designed to leave you wanting more, with unexpected plot twists and shifting relationships that keep you guessing.
I was completely captivated by The Girlfriend. It’s such a sensual and dark series, and honestly, it really works because of the incredible performances from Cooke and Wright. The way they portray their characters – two people from totally different backgrounds – is fascinating. They’re both so determined, and even ruthless, in their attempts to win Daniel over. What I loved most is how the series makes you constantly question what’s real and whose perspective you should even trust. It really sticks with you!
