Smiling Friends Confirms First Details for Final Adult Swim Episodes

The animated series Smiling Friends will be concluding soon, with the final two episodes set to air on Adult Swim this spring. Created by Michael Cusack and Zach Hadel, Smiling Friends has become a popular hit for Adult Swim, but the creators recently announced the show will end after its third season. Although Season 3 appeared to finish last year, there are still two more episodes to come.

With the announcement that Season 3 will be the last for Smiling Friends, Adult Swim revealed two previously unreleased episodes will air this April. These episodes were actually created during the production of the final season, but hadn’t been shown until now. Along with the premiere date, some initial details about what viewers can expect from these final episodes have also been shared.

When Do Smiling Friends’ Final Episodes Come Out?

The final episodes of Smiling Friends begin airing Sunday, April 12th at 11:00 PM ET on Adult Swim. The first episode, titled “Friend Bot (Version 12589218731809213528796879521),” features a story we unfortunately can’t describe. The series will conclude with the episode “Charlie’s Uncle Dies and Doesn’t Come Back,” which introduces a mysterious new character and promises some chaotic behavior from Allan.

Many fans were surprised to learn that Smiling Friends is ending, especially since Adult Swim had already renewed it for seasons 4 and 5. In a message to fans, creators Michael Cusack and Zach Hadel explained they’ve decided to end the series after the current season. These last two episodes, described by Hadel as ‘stragglers,’ are part of the ten episodes made for Smiling Friends Season 3. Hadel also clarified that the episodes don’t really connect thematically and won’t feel like a traditional series finale.

Could Smiling Friends Ever Come Back?

Though the current season of Smiling Friends will conclude with two final episodes, creators Michael Cusack and Zach Hadel have hinted at a possible return in the future, and Adult Swim seems open to it. Adult Swim released a statement praising the show’s unique and innovative vision, expressing their gratitude for what Michael and Zach accomplished with Smiling Friends.

Adult Swim emphasized that the network thrives on the unique ideas of its creators, and Smiling Friends is a perfect example of that. They stated they’re disappointed to see the show end, but completely understand and support the decision of creators Michael and Zach to conclude the series with its final two episodes airing on April 12th. Adult Swim hopes to work with them again on other projects in the future.
