“So awesome to see.” Battlefield 6 dev says ex-DICE developers are coming back in droves β€” that bodes well for Season 2, REDSEC, and updates beyond

Battlefield 6, the new multiplayer first-person shooter from Electronic Arts and Battlefield Studios, had a very successful launch in early October. It quickly exceeded expectations, attracting 750,000 players on Steam at the same time and selling over 7 million copies in its first weekend.

Battlefield 6 topped the charts in 2025, becoming the year’s best-selling game and the most popular first-person shooter. It also earned the most profit in October. This success is thanks to its satisfying shooting mechanics and a return to the classic Battlefield formula – featuring familiar classes, plenty of weapons and gear to unlock, and a diverse selection of maps and game types.

Battlefield 6 feels like a return to the classic Battlefield experience we haven’t seen since Battlefield 1. It’s a huge improvement for the series, which had been facing challenges after the disappointing launch of Battlefield 2042. The game has re-engaged longtime fans and attracted new players, and it’s even bringing former developers back to work on the franchise.

Daniel Cambrand, an environment artist at DICE – a key team within Battlefield Studios that has largely guided the franchise – shared this information.

He noticed a lot of former DICE employees are returning to the company. He shared on social media Thursday morning that he meets someone new each week who used to work there, and he’s really happy about it.

It seems Battlefield 6 is doing so well that it’s brought former DICE employees back to work on the game. A conversation between Cambrand and a fan suggests developers who contributed to previous Battlefield titles – including Battlefield 3, 4, 1, 5, and 2042 – have rejoined the studio.

As a researcher following the Battlefield franchise, I’m really encouraged by the recent developments. It suggests a strong pipeline of content is coming, not just for Battlefield 6, but also for Battlefield REDSEC, their free-to-play battle royale aiming to compete with Call of Duty: Warzone. We’re looking at Season 2 launching in early 2026, with plans for continued seasonal updates beyond that.

Battlefield 6’s first season has received a varied response. Players generally enjoyed the REDSEC launch and the new Eastwood map, but weren’t fans of the Blackwell Fields map or the limited-time Sabotage mode. A final update, Winter Offensive, is scheduled for December 9th, adding a winter-themed version of the Empire State map and changes to some multiplayer modes.

With the help of these experienced developers returning to the team, we’re aiming for consistent, high-quality updates and content in Season 2 and beyond – things like the bigger maps players have asked for, and popular community features such as a server browser with official, lasting servers.

Next week, you’ll have a chance to try Battlefield 6 with a free trial, so don’t miss out! The game normally costs $69.99 on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PlayStation 5, but you can currently get the Xbox version for $61.99 at Loaded.
