Sofía Vergara Reveals Where Her Modern Family Character Is Today

Sofía Vergara has a pretty good idea what Gloria’s modern life would look like.

It’s been five years since Modern Family ended, and I still think about Gloria all the time! I recently heard the actress talk about where she sees Gloria’s journey going, especially now that Manny is all grown up. It’s so sweet to imagine her and Jay watching him become an adult – it feels like a natural next step for their family.

Sofia Vergara shared that a storyline she wished had happened on Modern Family would have involved Jay and Gloria adjusting to Manny leaving for college. She believes it would have been a really enjoyable season to watch Jay and Gloria focus on raising their young son, Joe, together.

Sofía, age 53, understands what it’s like to watch a child start school. Her son, Manolo Gonzalez Vergara, went to Emerson College and graduated in 2015.

Manolo suspects Gloria is keeping herself occupied while Manny is away, and even hinted to TopMob News that she might attend the 18th annual food festival at The Seaport, sponsored by Invesco QQQ.

You know, we were just joking about how if she were here, she’d absolutely be setting up shop with her amazing sauce! We were imagining her right here in New York, selling it to everyone. It’s just that good!

But no matter what the Pritchett family would be up to, the cast remains close IRL.

She explained that they still feel like a close-knit family. Everyone stays connected through a large group chat, and they constantly support and keep up with each other’s work.

The cast of Modern Family was thrilled when she received an Emmy nomination for her performance in Griselda last year. Since then, she’s been prioritizing her personal life, including supporting her husband Manolo’s goals and taking care of herself.

Honestly, things have shifted for me. It’s all about joy and doing what I love now, which is amazing! The biggest weight is off my shoulders – Manolo’s college is paid for, and I’m finally free to just enjoy life and have fun.

She emphasized how crucial sleep is, saying it’s something she really focuses on. She noted that getting good sleep becomes more difficult as you get older, and the more she learns about it, the more she realizes how essential it is for everything – working, exercising, or even just having fun. You really need your rest.

Sarah Hyland, who played Haley Dunphy, ended her run on Modern Family with her character finding happiness with Dylan and their twins. In real life, Hyland found love with Wells Adams, a bartender from Bachelor in Paradise, and they got married in 2022 with Jesse Tyler Ferguson officiating. She also spent two seasons hosting Love Island USA in Fiji.

In addition to her work on Glee, Sarah starred in six episodes of Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin and performed on Broadway in Little Shop of Horrors and The Great Gatsby. When asked what advice she’d give her younger self, she told TopMob News in 2023, “Be kind to yourself, cherish your loved ones, but prioritize self-love.”

I was so excited to hear where Ariel Winter and Luke Benward were headed! While her character, Alex, took off to Switzerland for work, Ariel herself decided to stay a little closer to home. She and Luke packed up and left California together, which is just adorable! It’s great to see them enjoying some time together.

Beyond voicing the main character in Sofia the First, the actress has lent her voice to several other shows, including American Dad!, Firebuds, and Star Trek: Lower Decks. She also appeared in the documentary series SOSA Undercover. In an October 2024 interview with TopMob News, she shared, “I recently feel like I’ve discovered what I’m meant to do.” She explained that while growing up, she aspired to be a doctor or a lawyer, but now as an entertainer, she can use her platform to help others, which has always been her goal.

Shortly after Luke Dunphy started classes at the University of Oregon, Nolan Gould embarked on his own journey. In a December 2024 Instagram post, he playfully announced his return to social media with a collection of photos from his travels, joking, “Fell off the Earth again here’s some proof of life.”

He updated Ferguson on what he’s been up to, explaining on his podcast, Dinner’s On Me, how he sold most of his possessions after Modern Family ended. He then traveled around the country in a van while also filming projects like the 2023 movie Camp, the 2024 short film JOE, and an episode of Grey’s Anatomy.

Growing up on ‘Modern Family’ as Cameron and Mitchell’s daughter for nine seasons, I honestly thought my acting days were over! I told TikTok in 2024 that I didn’t think I’d ever act again. But then I rediscovered my love for performing in high school theater, and I started auditioning again.

I’m still pursuing acting, but I’ve also found another huge passion: music. That’s actually why I’ve decided to go by Frances Anderson now. It’s part of my full legal name – it’s my middle name, and it’s after a close friend of my mom’s.

I wanted a shorter name, of course, but more than that, I really wanted to create a fresh start and let people see a different side of me, and I want this new name to be specifically tied to my music.

Since playing the mature Manny on Modern Family—the son of Sofía Vergara’s Gloria—Rico Rodriguez has been busy with other projects, including an appearance on Disney’s Bunk’d and a voice role in the 2025 movie Sneaks. Recently, he shared a photo of a 2023 reunion with his Modern Family co-stars, joking about when they’ll all get together again.

Jeremy Maguire, in a recent interview with TopMob News, described himself as an ‘old soul’ trapped in a young body. ‘People have said I’m like a 30-year-old in a kid’s body,’ he explained, ‘and I actually agree with that.’

Jeremy Maguire, born in 2011, began playing Joe Pritchett on Modern Family in 2015, two years after the show first aired. He shared with TopMob that growing up on set blurred the lines between his on-screen and real-life family. He explained it was difficult to remember his co-stars weren’t his actual family, especially because he was so close to everyone. He admitted he was deeply saddened when the show ended, as it had been the only life he’d ever known.

He bounced back from setbacks and landed a role in all twelve episodes of the 2021 Disney reboot of Turner & Hooch. If he doesn’t find a suitable role, he’s happy to create his own, finding the process of writing – whether poems, stories, or script outlines – to be a helpful and enjoyable outlet.

Before landing the role of Phil Dunphy on Modern Family, Ty Burrell considered leaving acting. He and his wife even made a list of other possible careers, as he shared on Good Morning America. However, the list didn’t contain many options. “I didn’t have anything else I could do,” Burrell joked. “I don’t have any other skills.”

Even though he wasn’t counting on it, the actor from Oregon—who has two daughters, Frances and Greta, with his wife Holly Burrell—started opening restaurants in Utah after finishing his role on Modern Family and joining the cast of Fox’s Duncanville.

Because he lives in Utah, he doesn’t see his former colleagues very often – he even missed their get-together in 2023, which led some fans to worry about him! But they still keep in touch regularly through text. He told People magazine in 2025 that the group became very close while working together, and they’ve all remained connected since.

Julie Bowen remains close to her former “Modern Family” castmates five years after the show ended, considering them like family. She supported Sarah Hyland through a difficult relationship and attended Kaia Anderson-Emmons’ school play. In a June 2024 podcast interview, Bowen shared, “I love them all like my kids.” She also told TopMob News in 2024 that she and Sofia Vergara, who played her stepdaughter on the show, have a wonderful relationship, getting along famously.

The actress is currently enjoying a career boost thanks to her roles in the Peacock thriller Hysteria! and the Happy Gilmore sequel. Despite her success, she revealed on the All Good Things with Jason Nash podcast in 2022 that she’s very careful with her money, driven by a real fear of losing work in the future.

Although she playfully said she’s been taking a break from dating since her 2018 separation from her husband, Scott Phillips, with whom she shares sons Oliver, John, and Gustav, she admitted she’d be very interested in chatting with Harry Styles. “Absolutely!” she said on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “Seriously, look at him!”

Gloria Pritchett on Modern Family made Sofía Vergara a star. Since the show ended, her career has become more serious. She’s been in movies like This Is Me… Now and Despicable Me 4, and has been a judge on America’s Got Talent for six seasons and counting. The mother of adult son Manolo has also recently taken on her first dramatic acting role.

Sofía Vergara received Golden Globe and Emmy nominations for her role as Griselda Blanco in the 2024 Netflix miniseries Griselda. She told Laverne Cox on Live From TopMob: Emmys that the nominations were a surprise, as it was her first time acting in a dramatic role and, surprisingly, also her first time acting in Spanish. She described it as a ‘good surprise’.

After ending her marriage to Joe Manganiello two years ago, Sofia Vergara shared with Access Hollywood in January 2025 that she’s focusing on attracting positive things into her life – specifically good health, financial stability, and a new romantic partner, whether a boyfriend or something more casual.

The show’s producers decided against following Mitchell Pritchett and his husband Cam Tucker (Eric Stonestreet) when they moved to Missouri, disappointing some fans. Eric Stonestreet explained on Watch What Happens Live that after eleven seasons, the producers felt it was time to explore new storylines and perhaps felt this particular family’s story had run its course.

For those wanting a nostalgic revisit, Craig Ferguson’s podcast, Dinner’s On Me, features interviews with his former colleagues and stars like Gavin Rossdale and Chelsea Handler. Beyond the podcast, Ferguson has been actively involved in projects like the film Cocaine Bear and the play Here We Are.

The TV star is married to actor and producer Justin Mikita, and they have two sons named Beckett and Sullivan.

Kansas native Cam Stonestreet, formerly a football coach, is taking on acting roles in shows like American Auto and The Santa Clauses. He’s also joining the cast of the Dexter: Resurrection revival. In a playful March 2025 Instagram post, the Kansas City Chiefs fan announced, “I’m excited to be working with this fantastic team!”

In real life, actor Eric Stonestreet married nurse Lindsay Schweitzer. He announced their marriage on his 54th birthday in September 2025, sharing the news on Instagram with a post saying, “It’s my birthday and guess what I got? I got married!”

Ed O’Neill was already well-known as a TV dad after playing Al Bundy for eleven seasons on Married…with Children. When he was offered the role of Jay Pritchett, the family patriarch on Modern Family, he was hesitant about doing another sitcom. However, as he explained on The Jenny McCarthy Show in 2016, reading the script quickly changed his mind – he knew he had to take the part.

He recently played Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling in the 2024 film Clipped and is also appearing in Ryan Murphy’s new legal drama series, All’s Fair.

Off the field, former Youngstown State football player has been with Catherine Rusoff for many years. Together, they have two daughters, Claire and Sophia.

Despite having a complicated relationship with Haley for years, the actor from Good Luck Charlie officially became part of the family when their twins were introduced on screen. He called it “the best job of my life” in a 2020 Instagram post.

I was so sad to hear that he’s officially retired from acting! He shared the news on Instagram Live back in September 2024, and honestly, while I’ll miss seeing him on screen, I completely understand. He said it’s been a long road, and he felt it was time to step away because the whole acting process had become really unhealthy for him. He did a couple of short films – Always Come in Second and Nest – after his bigger roles, but it sounds like he needed to prioritize his well-being.
