Solana Futures ETF: The Next Big Thing or Just Another Disappointment?

Ah, dear reader, gather ’round as we embark on a most curious tale of the crypto realm, where the first Solana futures exchange-traded fund (ETF) is set to make its grand entrance! A momentous occasion, indeed, that some say may lead us to the fabled Solana spot ETF, the “next logical step” in this bewildering world of digital coins, as proclaimed by the wise sages of the industry.

On the illustrious date of March 20, Volatility Shares shall unveil not one, but two Solana (SOL) futures ETFs: the Volatility Shares Solana ETF (SOLZ) and the Volatility Shares 2X Solana ETF (SOLT). What a mouthful! One can only imagine the excitement in the air, or perhaps it’s just the smell of burnt toast from the kitchen.

Our esteemed analyst, Ryan Lee, chief oracle at Bitget Research, has declared that this debut may usher in a wave of institutional adoption for the SOL token. How splendid! But let us not forget the cautionary tales of yore.

“The launch of the first Solana ETFs in the US could significantly boost Solana’s market position by increasing demand and liquidity for SOL, potentially narrowing the gap with Ethereum’s market cap.”

Ah, the sweet nectar of optimism! Yet, as Lee continues, he warns of Ethereum’s “entrenched ecosystem,” a formidable fortress that may prove difficult to breach. One can almost hear the clanging of swords in the distance!

But lo! Not all are convinced that the Solana futures ETF will be a resounding success. Some industry participants, with furrowed brows and skeptical hearts, fear that it may lead to investor disappointment, much like the spot Ether ETF launch, which was merely a “sidekick” to the Bitcoin ETFs, as foretold by the seer Eric Balchunas of Bloomberg.

While the futures ETF may not bring forth a deluge of inflows, it does serve to legitimize Solana’s status as a top cryptocurrency. This is especially true after the illustrious announcement from none other than US President Donald Trump, who declared that his Working Group on Digital Assets would include Solana in the US crypto strategic reserve, alongside the likes of Cardano (ADA) and XRP. What a motley crew!

“Solana ETFs are in motion creating the possible avenues for more wide-scale adoption,” proclaims Anmol Singh, co-founder of Bullet, a Solana-native perpetual futures decentralized exchange. A mouthful indeed, but let us not dwell on semantics!

Singh, in his infinite wisdom, told CryptoMoon:

“Solana spot ETF is yet to be approved but given the increased awareness around Solana and the Futures ETFs this would be a logical next step.”

“We can expect moderate inflows into the futures ETF – spot ETF is generally a better instrument for getting exposure and that will be the major milestone,” he added, as if he were a fortune teller peering into a crystal ball.

While the adoption rate of futures ETFs is as elusive as a cat in a rainstorm, a spot Solana ETF may attract between $3 billion to $6 billion of net assets in the first six months, eclipsing the adoption rate of Ether ETFs, according to a JPMorgan report seen by CryptoMoon. How delightful!

“When applying these so-called “adoption rates” to SOL and XRP, we see SOL attracting roughly $3 billion-$6 billion of net assets and XRP gathering $4 billion-$8 billion in net new assets,” the report stated, as if it were a grand auction of digital riches.

However, dear reader, do not let your hopes soar too high! “The timeline could extend into 2026 due to the SEC’s precedent of taking […] 240–260 days to review filings,” warns James Seyffart, a sage from Bloomberg Intelligence, as he gazes into the future with a furrowed brow.
