Solana’s Anatoly Yakovenko Calls Ethereum’s Pectra Upgrade a Joke (But Still Cares)

Anatoly Yakovenko: So, Ethereum‘s Pectra Upgrade went live on May 7, like, officially making Ethereum even more of a blockchain diva. We’re talking about 11 shiny new Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs) that promise to make things “faster” and “more efficient.” 😏 You know, the usual blockchain marketing buzzwords.

Vitalik Buterin, in his latest “I’m too smart for you” blog post, also mentioned that they’re “working on reducing technical complexity.” Translation: “Let’s make sure normal people can actually use this thing.”

But hold on, our good friend Anatoly Yakovenko, co-founder of Solana, is not impressed. In fact, he pretty much tossed Ethereum’s big upgrade aside like a poorly made TikTok video. In a tweet (that he probably regrets now), he dismissed the upgrade as a joke. 😬

He compared Solana’s V2.2 upgrade to FIVE Ethereum Pectra upgrades. Yep, you read that right. According to Yakovenko, a modest 20% capacity increase on Solana is like “five Pectras worth” of improvements. That’s five. Count ‘em. 🙄

Solana’s 20% compute increase in 2.2 is like 5 pectra’s worth of capacity added to the network.

Solana 2.2 vs Ethereum Pectra – Yakovenko Throws Shade Like a Pro

So here we are, Anatoly basically saying, “Look, we’ve got V2.2 out, and it’s a game-changer. Ethereum’s upgrade? Meh.” 🙄

The Solana V2.2 update increases the per-block compute limit from 50 million to 60 million CUs, giving it a sweet 20% boost. More transactions, more blocks. Boom. 💥

Meanwhile, Ethereum’s Pectra upgrade doubled its on-chain blob capacity (which sounds so nerdy, I’m not even sure I understand it), raising the target blob count from 3 to 6 per block. This helps with scaling and cutting down on data availability costs. Yawn.

Vitalik is over there patting himself on the back, saying the change “doubles the capacity of layer‑2 networks.” Ugh, okay. Let’s all try to stay awake.

Market reaction? Well, Solana’s price is still, you know, doing its thing, but Ethereum’s ETH token is up 20% since the upgrade. ETH is at $2,387.15, while SOL is just hanging around $171.52.

The Blockchain Battle Heats Up – Let the Finger Pointing Begin!

Yakovenko’s words are a bold reminder that Solana and Ethereum are like the Taylor Swift and Katy Perry of the blockchain world. One’s always throwing shade at the other. 🙃

But let’s break it down. Ethereum’s update is like one of those overly ambitious New Year’s resolutions that sounds good in theory but takes forever to actually work. It’s all about UX, staking, cryptography, and some Layer-2 love. Pretty much everything except performance. 😬

On the other hand, Solana’s update is more like a pre-workout supplement. Quick. Strong. Immediate gains. 🚀

Ethereum’s still holding its crown as the blockchain with the most value locked up. But Solana? It’s not far behind. Solana’s 24-hour trading volume is at a mind-boggling $3.75 billion, and guess what? Solana’s DEX volume is also edging out Ethereum’s at $2.83 billion vs Ethereum’s $2.08 billion. Eat your heart out, Vitalik. 😏

Ethereum vs Solana Trading Volume

Now, with both Pectra and Agave 2.2 live, it’s officially a race to see who can balance throughput, security, and composability better. May the best blockchain win! 🎮

And just when you thought things were quieting down, Ethereum’s eyeing its next upgrade, Fusaka, by Q3. So yeah, it looks like this technical arms race is about to go nuclear. 🔥
