Solo Leveling: Arise Overdrive is a complex game with many different features, so it can be overwhelming for new players without some help to get started!

One of the game’s defining features is its progression system, which is a bit unusual and requires a lot of repetitive effort. While this matches the source material it’s based on, players focusing solely on the main story might find it disruptive. The game also features distinctive mechanics for handling allies and a unique class system, among other things.

In this beginner’s guide, we’ll do our best to help you have a firm grasp on all of these basics!

Picking Your Skill Tree and Playstyle

Right away when you begin the game, you can choose one of four different classes for Sung Jinwoo. Each class offers a unique way to fight:

Assassin – A speedy offensive class that excels in agility. Great for ambushing foes and overwhelming them with a barrage of attacks, but its low survivability can be tough to deal with.
Duelist – The most straightforward class, great for anyone who just wants to charge in and fight foes straight on. Fairly tanky and outputs great damage, which makes it easy to play if you don’t mind its simplicity.
Elementalist – Master the classical elements to exploit your enemy’s weaknesses, doing great area-of-effect (AoE) damage and inflicting unique statuses. Requires you to be on point with knowing enemies’ weaknesses.
Ruler – A very versatile class that focuses on dominating enemies through crowd control and AoE attacks. Doesn’t have the highest damage output, but it can easily limit foes’ abilities.

Just remember, these choices are for your beginning class only. They help you decide how you want to start the game, but they don’t limit you later on. You can learn skills from any class as you play.

Plus, you can reset your Skill Trees if you want to get back any Skill Points you’ve already used. You’ll find the reset option at the top right of the Skill Tree screen, as pictured above.

If you want to switch up how you play, you can use that feature, but it costs a little bit of Gold.

The Primary Stats

Each of the four classes has unique strengths, reflected in their skills and stats. When you level up, you’ll receive 5 points to spend on improving the stats of your choice.

It can be tricky to improve your stats if you’re not sure what they actually do! Here’s a simple explanation of each one:

Strength – Increases your Attack and decreases the damage you take when blocking. Most important for Duelist skills.
Vitality – Increases your HP, Defense, and how much HP you regain through potions. Most important for Duelist skills.
Agility – Increases the damage and frequency of Critical Hits, as well as the window for Extreme Evasion perfect dodges. Most important for Assassin skills.
Intelligence – Increases your MP and MP regeneration. Also increases your effectiveness at applying elemental status effects and their damage. Most important for Elementalist skills.
Perception – Increases the minimum damage you can do and how long you have to perform a Deflect. Most important for Ruler skills.

Similar to how Skill Trees work with classes, the stat choices you make aren’t final. You can always reset your stat points using the Reset button in the Assign Stat Points window, as shown in the image.

For a small fee, you can reset all of your stat points, letting you completely rebuild your character. It’s similar to switching classes – you’re free to experiment and change your approach whenever you want!

Main Story and World Map | Progression Basics

Soon after the game begins, you’ll arrive at the Hunter Association Hub. This is where you can accept missions from the main panel. These missions fall into two different types.

The first part of the series is the Main Story. It’s divided into chapters that follow the core plot of Solo Leveling. Be warned, though – things get challenging fast, so you’ll need to level up your character quickly!

That’s where the World Map becomes useful. It’s a mode where you can complete optional missions that become available as you play through the main story. These missions are how you earn most of your money and experience points.

You can also adjust how challenging each World Map mission is, choosing a difficulty level from 1 to 10. Completing a mission at each difficulty for the first time will reward you with bonus items, so it’s worth trying them all!

Just a quick tip: be sure to visit Lee Roah’s Special Cafe right by the mission terminal. Her drinks provide helpful buffs that can make even difficult challenges easier.

Recruiting Hunters

You’ll need to team up with other players in this game for certain missions and challenges. These allies will give you helpful boosts, but you’ll have to find and add them to your team first.

To hire Hunters, speak with Lim Hajin, who is located near the central terminal at the Hunter Association Hub, and choose the ‘Hunter Recruitment’ option. Keep in mind that there’s a fee paid with Hunt Coins.

Unlike some other games, Hunt: Showdown doesn’t have any in-game purchases. You earn Hunt Coins simply by playing – they’re awarded for completing missions.

Keep in mind that you can only use this feature once every 20 minutes. You can’t continuously recruit Hunters, unfortunately.

After you join, you’ll be shown three Hunters chosen at random. You can pick one of them to play, or you can choose to leave. Keep in mind that the entry fee isn’t refundable, unfortunately.

Once you’ve chosen a Hunter, you’ll need to recruit them to your team. The chance of successfully convincing them is shown as a Success Rate at the top of the screen.

To get more successful recruits, offer more Hunt Coins. You can offer them up to three times for each person you try to recruit.

If your bid is successful, you’ll pay the total Hunt Coin amount, and the Hunter will become part of your team. If your bid isn’t accepted, you’ll receive most of your coins back.

Plus, making a generous offer will permanently increase your success rate with that Hunter, even if they turn it down.

Hunters are more likely to succeed if they’re happy! Keep an eye out for Hunters with smiling faces – they’ll have a higher success rate.

You can also try the Quick Hire option, but it usually requires Hunter Reports, which are difficult to get through normal gameplay.

Collect as many Hunters as you can to unlock more possibilities and become more powerful by building relationships with them!

Enhance Your Artifacts

Don’t forget to upgrade your Artifacts! Think of them as Sung Jinwoo’s armor – they significantly improve his stats and are crucial for staying alive.

You can improve your artifacts by selecting them in the Artifacts menu and clicking the “Enhance” button. This requires Gold and Enhancement Chips, both of which you earn as you play the game.

It’s easy to overlook enhancements, but they can significantly impact how strong your characters are. Don’t forget to consider them!

Crafting Weapons

As you get more powerful, remember to create better weapons! You can do this by speaking with May and choosing the Sung Jinwoo Weapon Crafting option.

This section shows how to upgrade every weapon in the game. It begins with the basic weapons and progresses to the most powerful ones.

Creating things will need different materials. Luckily, if you’re missing something, you can select it from the list at the bottom right of the screen. This will show you exactly which missions reward that material.

Just a heads-up: you have to build items in a specific order in this game. You’ll need to start with the basic weapons on the left before you can create more powerful ones. Remember this as you improve your equipment!
