Solo Leveling Goes on Hiatus for Shocking Reason

The manhwa series Solo Leveling Ragnarok, a spin-off and sequel to Solo Leveling, is temporarily pausing production. The artist, Jin, announced he’s taking a break and explained his unexpected reason in a letter published with chapter 68, which concludes Season 2.

Solo Leveling: Ragnarok artist steps away from manhwa

Jin announced in a letter that he’s pausing work on Solo Leveling Ragnarok to fulfill his mandatory military service. All male citizens in South Korea have been required to serve in the military since the mid-1900s.

Jin, the artist behind Solo Leveling, shared that he was a longtime fan of the series even before he began working on it. He explained that he was inspired to start drawing by artist Jang Sung-rak, and that influence continues to be a core part of his style. (via ComicBook.com)

Jin talked about his career as an artist and how he was surprised to get the chance to contribute to the Solo Leveling side stories. He fondly recalled the excitement he felt when he first learned about the opportunity.

The artist explained that he’s leaving the project. In a statement, he said he’s finishing his work on the title and taking a break from his role. He’s temporarily leaving due to military service, but he views this as a pause rather than a permanent departure, and anticipates returning to work in the future.

Jin announced that a new artist – another student of the original Solo Leveling artist, Jang Sung-rak – will be taking over the project. He expressed his gratitude to fans and supporters. He ended his message by saying he’ll cherish this experience and work hard to create art he can be proud of, and thanked everyone for their support.

Jang Sung-rak, also known as Dubu, passed away in 2022. Since then, multiple artists have continued the work. Jin explains that he first worked on the spin-off stories before becoming the main artist for Ragnarok.
