Atsushi Kaneko, the producer behind the smash-hit anime “Solo Leveling,” has offered a teaser about potential hardships that main character Sung Jin-woo might face in Season 3. Since its release in January 2025, this highly acclaimed series has been breaking records and even took home the title of ‘Anime of the Year’ at this year’s Crunchyroll Anime Awards.
What Sung Jin-woo might lose in Solo Leveling Season 3
Atsushi Kaneko, the producer of Solo Leveling, has hinted that character Sung Jin-woo might suffer a significant setback in Season 3, should the studio approve its production.
In a chat with Screen Rant during Anime Expo 2025, Kaneko clarified that the impending loss for Jin-woo wouldn’t involve any physical possessions. Instead, it will be an emotional loss, something deeply meaningful and significant to him.
In his statement, Kaneko expressed that if there’s a third season, the character Jinwoo would grow incredibly powerful but might lose an essential part of himself, leaving him in an incomplete state. He expressed enthusiasm about depicting this internal struggle. Furthermore, the producer hinted that Season 3 will delve into Jin-woo’s emotional aspects as he advances and acquires new abilities, potentially grappling with maintaining his humanity throughout the journey.
Kaneko also expressed that the team behind Solo Leveling aims for it to reach the same level of impact that series like One Piece, Dragon Ball, and Naruto have had on Japanese audiences. He stated, “Though I’m delighted by the reception so far, I don’t believe everyone in Japan is familiar with our series yet. At the moment, Solo Leveling isn’t as well-known in Japan compared to iconic shows like Dragon Ball, One Piece, or Naruto. However, if a third season materializes, that’s when I hope we can truly transcend those boundaries.
As a devoted fan who’s just binged through Solo Leveling Season 2, I can confidently say that its captivating storylines and stunning visuals have left an indelible mark. However, if you’re eagerly awaiting the next installment, brace yourself for a bit of patience – it seems that we may need to wait a while before Season 3 graces our screens.
