Several highly anticipated games are now planned for release in 2027 instead of 2026, giving developers more time to polish their titles. While 2025 was a great year for gaming, 2026 is shaping up to be even bigger, especially with the upcoming launches of Grand Theft Auto VI and Marvel’s Wolverine. We can expect even more surprises, just like we saw in 2025 with unexpected hits like Expedition 33 and Schedule 1. Overall, 2026 promises to be a very exciting year for gamers.
It’s possible Grand Theft Auto VI might be delayed again. It was originally planned for 2025 and has already been pushed back twice, leading many to believe it could launch in 2027. But even if that happens, 2026 still promises a fantastic lineup of games. Trying to play them all at release will be a challenge, but it’s a good problem to have! Some developers are taking extra time to ensure their games are polished and to avoid competing directly with the biggest releases of 2026.
2027 Will Have Some Massive Game Releases

Several exciting video games coming in 2027 were revealed at The Game Awards earlier this month. The biggest announcement was likely Tomb Raider: Catalyst, the newest installment in Lara Croft’s story. This game will take place in India and feature a more seasoned and mature Lara Croft than we’ve seen before. With a planned release in 2027, it’s been nearly a decade since the last mainline Tomb Raider game, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, which came out in 2018.
Even though the new mainline Tomb Raider game isn’t coming until after 2026, fans won’t have to wait that long for a Lara Croft adventure. A remake of the original game, called Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, is planned for release in 2026. While the exact release date is still unknown, it might come out in the summer to avoid competition with games launching in the fall, but the final timing will depend on when the game is finished.
This is a fantastic opportunity to breathe new life into the Tomb Raider franchise, which hasn’t had a major new game in years. While there have been updated versions and smaller spin-offs, this release marks a return to the large, story-driven adventures that fans have been waiting for.
Get ready for the return of a classic! Mega Man: Dual Override is coming in 2027, and the announcement at The Game Awards came as a big surprise. It’s been almost a decade since Mega Man 11 came out in 2018, and like Lara Croft, Mega Man is making a comeback after a long hiatus.
Interestingly, Mega Man: Dual Override is coming to the PlayStation 4, which will be 14 years old by the time the game is released. Capcom has consistently supported the PS4, continuing to release games like the Resident Evil 4 Remake on the console even after its initial lifespan.
Science fiction fans have been waiting for Exodus, and it’s finally scheduled to release in 2027. The game is being developed by Archetype Entertainment, a new studio created by former BioWare developers and supported by Wizards of the Coast. Because many of the studio’s team members previously worked on the popular Mass Effect series, comparisons have already been made. Adding to the excitement, Academy Award-winning actor Matthew McConaughey is contributing his voice and performance to the game.
The game, initially planned for release in 2026, has been delayed. While the exact reason hasn’t been announced, it’s likely the developers want to avoid launching around the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto. This is a completely new game from a new studio with a substantial budget, and to ensure its success, they need the best possible launch window – one that isn’t overly crowded with other major releases.
Despite the excitement around Exodus, it will face strong competition from another sci-fi game. According to a recent Bloomberg report, Naughty Dog is planning to release Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet around mid-2027. Like Exodus, this game will also feature well-known actors, including Tony Dalton and Kumail Nanjiani, and potentially others. This will be Naughty Dog’s first completely new game in seven years and is expected to be a strong contender for Game of the Year awards.
