Okay, so I’m hearing some crazy talk – apparently a new God of War game might just drop out of nowhere during this week’s State of Play! It’s just a rumour right now, but seriously, if that happened, I’d lose it. I’m keeping my fingers crossed!
Although it sounds surprising, this is likely the Greek mythology-inspired Metroidvania game currently being developed by Mega Cat Studios, if the rumors are true.
The game was initially planned to release last year, but its launch has been delayed until 2026 so the developers could include voice acting.
Fans are buzzing about comments from Spanish YouTubers, like Revenant, who hinted at a major announcement related to a popular franchise coming later this week.
According to findings by PlayStation Ultimate, Revenant will be partnering with PlayStation Spain to livestream this week’s State of Play. He also mentioned he’ll continue streaming after the event, hinting that there will be a new game or demo to play afterwards.
Although this information doesn’t seem significant on its own, Jeff Grubb from Giant Bomb – who was among the first to report on this potential spin-off – also shared a noteworthy reaction when talking about it.
During his daily Game Mess Mornings broadcast, Lex Luddy wondered aloud if news about a new ‘God of War’ game would finally be revealed. Jeff Grubb, with a playful tone, replied that he couldn’t predict the future and had no inside information.
There isn’t much concrete information available right now, just hints and claims, but unexpected releases have happened before. Surprise launches often gain traction, and a 2D God of War game would likely be very popular.
The most interesting thing about this upcoming game will be where you can play it. It’s almost certain to be on the PlayStation 5, but there’s a chance Sony might also release it for the Nintendo Switch, similar to what they did with LEGO Horizon Adventures.
