We previously noted unusual and fluctuating prices on the PlayStation Store, and the problem appears to be continuing – and might be happening more often now.
Someone on Reddit recently shared their experience playing Assassin’s Creed Unity after an update added support for 60 frames per second on the PlayStation 5.
The game appeared to cost £3.74 when browsing without logging in, but the price jumped to £9.99 after the user signed into their account.
We confirmed this issue happens on the PlayStation Store website. When you’re logged into your account, the higher price appears. However, the price changes to the lower one when you browse the store while logged out, just like in the example shown.
Here’s another price difference: The Last of Us: Part II Remastered costs £44.99 when you’re not logged in, but drops to £42.49 once you log in. It’s not a huge saving, but it’s definitely noticeable.
These are just a few examples, but they show how we’re testing dynamic pricing on a wider scale.
PSPrices, a website that monitors prices, has been following this situation closely and recently shared their observations. Here’s what they’ve found:
So, I’ve noticed some weird stuff happening on the PlayStation Store lately. Some of us are seeing games listed at way lower prices than normal. Turns out, Sony’s running a test – basically, they’re trying to figure out how much we’re willing to pay for games. They’re randomly showing different prices to different people, splitting us into groups to see if cheaper prices mean more sales. It’s like a big experiment, and we’re all part of it!
You might have noticed that prices on the PlayStation Store are different from what other PS5 owners are seeing, and it’s happening without most people realizing it. It doesn’t affect everyone, but it is a possibility.
