I’ve been hearing everyone talk about this new show, Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, and it’s clearly a huge hit worldwide. It’s interesting though – the Duffer brothers, Matt and Ross, didn’t actually come up with the idea, but they were producers on it, and it seems to be one of their final projects with Netflix. They really have a knack for picking winners, or at least helping to make them!

The new Netflix limited series, Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, launched on March 26th and quickly gained popularity. Critics gave it positive reviews, and just four days later, it’s now the number one show on Netflix, according to FlixPatrol.

In the United States, it only took four days for the series to reach the top of the charts. Globally, Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen is now the most popular show on Netflix, hitting number one in eleven different countries.

The horror series Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen was created by Haley Z. Boston. It tells the story of a couple getting ready to marry, and a disturbing event that makes the woman, Rachel, question her relationship with her fiancé, Nicky, over the course of a few days.

The cast includes Rachel and Adam DiMarco as Nicky, with Jennifer Jason Leigh, Ted Levine, Jeff Wilbusch, Karla Crome, Gus Birney, Sawyer Fraser, and Zlatko Burić also starring.

Boston shared her passion for horror, explaining that it helps her understand and deal with her own feelings. In an interview with Tudum, she noted that she enjoys developing characters, something she feels is often missing in horror. She prefers to build stories around relatable characters, realistic dialogue, and humor, then add in elements of suspense and fear. Ultimately, she wants to create horror that is genuinely disturbing and unsettling for the audience.

I have to say, “Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen” really split people! Critics seem to love it – it’s ‘Certified Fresh’ with an 84% rating. But it didn’t immediately click with regular viewers like me, and it’s currently sitting at 63% on Rotten Tomatoes. It’s interesting how different people are seeing it!

What’s Next for the Duffer Brothers?

Matt and Ross Duffer became well-known in 2016 with their hit show, Stranger Things. The series was a huge success and quickly became one of Netflix’s most popular shows ever. However, in the summer of 2025, before the final season of Stranger Things was released, the Duffer Brothers made a deal with Paramount.

Their recent work with the streaming service includes the upcoming project Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, the animated series Stranger Things: Tales From ’85, another unrevealed Stranger Things project, and more.

Okay, so Netflix is dropping something cool for ‘Stranger Things’ fans – ‘Tales From 85’ is an animated adventure that fills the gap between seasons two and three. It’s bringing back some characters we already love, and honestly, I’m excited to see them in a different style. You can check it out starting April 23rd.
