Warning: This article reveals key plot points from the Netflix thriller Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen. After finishing the series, many viewers are wondering if it will be renewed for a second season. Created by Haley Z. Boston and executive produced by the Duffer Brothers (known for Stranger Things and currently working on Stranger Things: Tales from ’85 and The Boroughs), the show centers on Rachel Harkin (Camila Morrone) and Nicky Cunningham (Adam DiMarco) as they get married at his family’s cabin. But their wedding weekend is complicated by more than just typical event planning stress. The series is a suspenseful and unsettling exploration of Rachel’s troubled past, a family curse with supernatural elements, and the challenges of joining a close-knit family.
With only eight episodes in its first season, you could easily finish the series in one night. But many viewers are wondering if it will be back for a second season, and what that might look like in terms of cast and storyline. Here’s what we know so far.
Has ‘Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen’ Season 2 Been Confirmed?

As of today, Netflix hasn’t announced whether “Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen” will return for a second season. Originally, it was created as a one-time limited series with only eight episodes. But because the show is currently doing so well – it’s the #4 show on Netflix, according to Flix Patrol – another season isn’t out of the question.
Adam DiMarco recently told Men’s Health he doesn’t know if there will be a Season 2, and even if he did, he’s not at liberty to say.
Given the rich and intriguing world Boston has built, it would be disappointing if Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen suffered the same fate as many Netflix shows and was canceled before its time. It’s often hard to justify continuing a limited series, and Mike Flanagan’s horror shows like The Haunting of Hill House and Midnight Mass—with just 10 and 7 episodes respectively—felt complete as they were. This new series is in a special spot: it offers a satisfying conclusion, but also leaves the door open for future stories in a way that feels natural.
‘Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen’ Season 2’s Potential Cast

Because the show hasn’t been officially picked up for another season, the cast remains unconfirmed. If Netflix decides to continue the series, whether the original actors return or a new cast is chosen will depend on how the story continues – if it directly follows the first season or starts fresh.
Although Nicky and Rachel’s intense relationship appears to end in the Season 1 finale, a second season could explore Rachel’s journey after she seemingly dies and returns to life, fully accepting her destiny as “the Witness.” Having learned about her family’s curse and that Nicky isn’t the one for her, she leaves town.
Okay, so if Netflix decides to revisit Rachel and Nicky’s story in Season 2, I’m fully expecting to see Camila Morrone and Adam DiMarco back on screen. And it looks like the Cunninghams – Jude, Nellie, and Jules – survived, which means we could also welcome back Karla Crome, Jeff Wilbusch, and Sawyer Fraser. Basically, a lot of familiar faces could be returning, and honestly, I’d be thrilled!
What Storyline Could ‘Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen’ Season 2 Feature?

A second season of Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen could focus on what happens with Nicky and Rachel next. Haley Z. Boston discussed possibilities for the future of the show in an interview with Deadline, explaining:
It’s possible the story could continue. I initially wondered if a future event, like Jude’s wedding years from now, might involve Rachel still being the same, given her unique circumstances. Or maybe Nicky will get married again, and she’ll be a witness. However, I also see the story as complete and satisfying as it is. So, it could potentially continue, or it could simply end here.
Boston suggested that Nicky might be open to finding love again, possibly even getting remarried. However, that could be difficult given the painful memories of his previous, unsuccessful engagement and wedding. Furthermore, if Rachel returns, her story will likely become intertwined with the Cunninghams’ family, as the curse dictates she’s meant to attend their weddings. The thought of Jude encountering Rachel again is unsettling, and he likely hopes she stays away from his family.
If Nell and Jules return for a second season, we might see how their relationship evolves. Despite their difficulties, they clearly care for each other, and a new storyline could explore what makes a relationship strong – things like honesty, trust, compassion, and open communication – even as they face challenges, potentially including a difficult situation.
In an interview with ScreenRant, creator Sarah Boston suggested the show could potentially continue as an anthology series. While originally planned as a limited series with a complete storyline, she believes there’s room to explore new, terrifying concepts, saying she’d need to identify another deeply unsettling fear to investigate.
The first season had a great concept, focusing on the common fears around marriage and commitment, so a second season would need an equally strong theme. While many things can be scary – like flying or spiders – they might not be substantial enough to sustain an entire season. A fear like Atelophobia – the fear of not being perfect – could be a fascinating direction. Maybe a character could be burdened with another family curse, or a new supernatural element could be introduced. Of course, we don’t know if there will be a second season, or what it would be about, so it’s all speculation. Sounds like a good time to re-watch Season 1, doesn’t it?
