Friends and family are mourning the loss of South Korean actor Song Young-kyu.
On August 4th, as confirmed by local authorities to Variety, the lead actor of the movie “Extreme Job” was discovered unconscious in a parked vehicle nearby Seoul, South Korea, by an acquaintance. Regrettably, he was 55 years old.
The police later informed the news source that there was no indication of suspicious activity or a suicide note on the scene.
As reported, the vehicle was located within a residential area known as Cheoin-gu, Yongon – approximately 25 miles from Seoul. The discovery of the body occurred around 8 in the morning, according to the local time.
TopMob News has reached out to Song’s reps for comment but has not heard back.
Approximately two months before his untimely demise, the actor from “Narco-Saints” found himself in a DUI situation. He drove around three miles with a blood-alcohol level surpassing the legal limit, which led to him losing his driving privileges in South Korea, as reported by Variety. At the time of his passing, he was expecting to be indicted for this incident.
After the occurrence, the performer was taken off from three different productions, according to the source. These included dramas like “The Defects” and “The Triumphant Attempt”, as well as a theatrical presentation of “Shakespeare in Love”.
Kicking off his professional journey, Song first graced the stage in the 1994 kids’ musical titled “Wizard Mureul“. Over the subsequent three decades, he solidified his status as an entertainer by featuring in over forty TV series and multiple movies.
Above all, the 55-year-old gained recognition for his portrayal of Chief Choi in Extreme Job – one of the top-grossing Korean films – sharing the screen with fellow actors Ryu Seung-ryong, Lee Hanee, and Jin Seon-kyu.
Last year, I found myself utterly captivated by this 2019 action-comedy masterpiece. The leading actor, you know who I’m talking about, played the commanding head of a covert narcotics investigation squad. To keep his cover intact during his undercover detective work, he ingeniously ran a humble fried chicken joint, masking the real purpose behind its walls – an operational base for their relentless investigations.
Apart from leading roles, Song appeared in significant supporting parts in films such as “Trick”, “Stove League”, “Baseball Girl”, and “Hyena”.
The actor is survived by his wife and two daughters.
