In the film, Sonic (voiced by Ben Schwartz) was racing with Tails (Colleen O’Shaughnessey) and Knuckles (Idris Elba) when he suddenly found himself alone in the woods and attacked by a group of Metal Sonic robots—characters from the video games. Just when it looked like Sonic was in trouble, a mysterious hedgehog with a hammer and a hood appeared and saved him. This instantly led fans to believe that Amy Rose would be making her first appearance in Sonic 4.

He expressed his excitement about welcoming her to the Sonic the Hedgehog movie family.

Amy Rose first appeared in the 1993 game Sonic CD. In this game for the Sega CD, Dr. Robotnik captures a rare planet that only appears once a year, intending to turn it into a massive robot factory. The game also introduced a sci-fi element with Robotnik using seven “Time Stones” to travel to the past and future, fueling his experiments. Sonic needed help from a cheerful hedgehog named Amy Rose, who had a crush on him, to travel through time and stop Robotnik’s scheme.

Amy Rose quickly gained a dedicated fanbase after her introduction, with some fans appreciating a new female character in the Sonic universe, while others found her energetic and persistent pursuit of Sonic to be irritating. Over time, she’s become a beloved figure within the Sonic world, and Kristen Bell has a lot of creative freedom to reimagine the character.
