Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Gets New Trailer Showcasing Features of its Open Network Test

Sega recently unveiled a fresh trailer for “Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds”, highlighting the multiple multiplayer options that will be offered in this forthcoming kart racer. You can watch the video below to get a glimpse of it. The action-packed trailer features four characters from the Sonic universe competing against each other, namely Sonic, Shadow, Jet, and Espio. They battle it out on tracks scattered across the game, followed by a demonstration of diverse race types.

CrossWorlds” promises to offer multiplayer in every level and an open network test showcasing modes like Grand Prix, Time Trial, and Race Park. Upon release, it will support four-player splitscreen multiplayer locally. Additionally, players on different platforms can compete against each other thanks to cross-platform matchmaking. Most of these multiplayer features, excluding local splitscreen, are set to be accessible during the upcoming open network test for the game.

On the official website for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, Sega has made it clear that data saved during the open network test won’t transfer over to the final version of the game. So, any advancements in the game such as character or cosmetic unlocks will only apply within the confines of the network test.

The trial for the online multiplayer game “Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds” begins on August 28 at 9 PM Pacific Time and continues until September 1, ending at the same time. This announcement was made earlier this week, also revealing that both Grand Prix and Time Trial modes will be accessible during the trial period, along with single-player game options played offline.

In July, Sega announced that the game “Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds” would have many popular characters from different franchises, but these characters wouldn’t have voice lines within the game. The head of the franchise, Takashi Iizuka, explained that this decision was made because the dialogue in the game is exclusively for the 24 Sonic series characters who are playable in the game.

Iizuka stated, “There’s no dialogue for collaborative characters.” He explained this decision was due to the IP restrictions, as only the 24 Sonic characters are allowed voice dialogues. Fans have also observed that additional DLC characters from Sega, like the pre-order bonus character Werehog, won’t have any voice lines either, as demonstrated in the trailer released by Sega.

In Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, a variety of characters are set to make an appearance, including Hatsune Miku, the vocaloid pop star, as well as beloved Nickelodeon characters such as SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick Star. Characters from other Sega franchises like Yakuza/Like a Dragon and Persona will also be included, with Ichiban Kasuga and Joker confirmed for the game. The racetracks in this kart racer will span across various zones and areas within the Sonic universe.

The game titled “Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds” is scheduled for release on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch on September 25th. It’s also expected to be playable on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 towards the end of this year.
