Sega recently announced that Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds has surpassed one million copies sold. The game, a kart racer featuring characters traveling between dimensions, became available on September 25th for PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series X/S and One, PC, and Nintendo Switch. A version for the upcoming Switch 2 console will be released later in 2024.
The recent game, Sonic X Shadow Generations, quickly became a success, selling over a million copies when it first launched and exceeding 1.5 million copies after a month. While it’s not a perfect comparison, especially considering players can control Shadow and the excitement around the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie, the game seems to be performing much better than Team Sonic Racing. Team Sonic Racing, released in May 2019, sold 1.38 million copies by the end of the third quarter of 2020.
In addition to the latest sales information, a new free character, Joker from Persona 5, has been added to the game. Players can equip Arsene Wing and enjoy three songs: “Take Over,” “Wake Up, Get Up, Get out There,” and “Victory.” Sega also announced that players have collectively completed over 74.5 million races, more than 31.5 million Grands Prix, and over 13 million Ranked races so far.
