The game titled “Sonic Racing: Crossworlds” has sparked controversy among fans since its recent announcement. Although some enthusiasts are eager for the game’s racing features and iconic Sonic franchise characters, others have been vocal in their criticism of the game and its developers, particularly over its $70 price tag. Recently, a particular decision made by the team has drawn even more negative feedback, with “Sonic” fans labeling it as “intolerable.
The issue lies in Sega’s decision to make Werehog Sonic a premium pre-order bonus for the game Sonic Racing: Crossworlds, rather than having him as a playable character within the game itself. Additionally, it came as a surprise to players that this pre-order exclusive character lacked voice acting.
As a dedicated Sonic gamer, I can’t help but express my disappointment upon hearing the news about Sonic Racing: Crossworlds and the negative reactions it’s been receiving. Reading through the comments on that post, it’s clear that many fellow Sonic fans are unhappy with this decision, labeling it as greedy, especially considering the high price tag associated with Sonic Racing: Crossworlds.

“This is just unacceptable for a $70 game,” commented X user Person108.
Players might wonder why a franchise character was offered as paid bonus content before the game’s release instead of being part of the main cast. This raises questions about the reasoning behind it. Additionally, fans have criticized the absence of voice acting in this extra content, finding it strange given that the Werehog didn’t have any voice acting in the original game.

A user called @Shamaboy11, from the X community, analogizes the community’s puzzlement over the decision by drawing a parallel between the pre-order content and Keanu Reeves’ role in a DLC (Downloadable Content) for Sonic x Shadow Generations.
The author expressed confusion over the absence of voice for the Werehog character, as it seemed strange to them that more funds were spent on a mediocre performance by Keanu Reeves in a single DLC level pack for a game, which they found surprising given its budget, apparently smaller than that of Sonic Racing CrossWorlds.
Currently, neither Sega nor the Sonic Racing: Crossworlds team have provided a comment about the recent controversy. However, the game is scheduled to launch across various platforms – Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox, and PC – by September 25th of this year.
