Sony Debuts Exclusive PlayStation Merchandise Locked Behind PS5 Trophies

Earning trophies and achievements makes games more enjoyable by giving players extra challenges beyond just finishing the story. For those who love completing everything, these are a key part of the experience. Usually, trophies are just visual rewards, but PlayStation is now doing something different: they’re offering exclusive merchandise that you can only purchase by unlocking specific trophies on your PS5.

PlayStation recently launched Ghost Rewards, a special collection of merchandise for fans of *Ghost of Tsushima*. However, you can only buy these items if you’ve unlocked specific achievements (trophies) in the game on your PlayStation account. While *Destiny 2* uses a similar system for some of its branded products, Sony’s new program is still sparking debate among gamers.

PlayStation’s New Ghost Rewards, Explained

The new PlayStation Ghost Rewards program lets dedicated players purchase exclusive items. Right now, two items are available for pre-order for those who’ve earned specific in-game achievements. First is a limited-edition *Ghost of Tsushima* “Living Legend” Platinum Trophy pin, costing $25. To buy it, you must have unlocked the incredibly challenging Living Legend trophy in the game – which requires collecting *all* trophies. The second item is a *Ghost of Tsushima* “Mono No Aware” Gold Trophy T-shirt, priced at $30. You’ll need the Mono No Aware trophy on your linked PlayStation account to purchase this shirt.

You can pre-order both items now! To be able to buy them, you need to earn specific trophies in *Ghost of Tsushima* by December 31st, 2025. Then, you’ll have until January 31st, 2026, to complete your purchase. These exclusive items are priced at $25 and $30 USD, which is a good value, although unlocking the trophies does take time. If you’re a dedicated *Ghost of Tsushima* player, you’ve likely already earned-or were working towards-these trophies!

Some players dislike the idea of having to grind in games just to spend more money on merchandise, seeing it as a way for companies to profit. However, others enjoy earning in-game items that unlock special merch, like pins for reaching certain levels in *Warframe* or items from *Destiny 2*. For these players, owning physical items tied to their virtual accomplishments feels rewarding. Plus, this system can help prevent resellers from quickly buying up all the limited-edition items, like *Ghost* merchandise, because it requires players to actually play the game to earn them.

Most people seem happy about this new program from Sony. Right now, you can only earn rewards by playing *Ghost of Tsushima*, but this could be a test run that extends to other games if it’s successful. While the program’s branding is linked to *Ghost of Tsushima* and the future *Ghost of Yotei*, the way it’s described hints that Sony might have plans to offer rewards for more games down the line.
