These days, there are quite a few lawsuits happening in the video game industry. According to a report by Reuters, Sony Interactive has recently filed a lawsuit against Tencent in the California federal court, alleging trademark infringement. In this lawsuit, Sony claims that Tencent is stealing ideas from their Horizon series for an upcoming game called Light of Motiram.
In the court case, Sony claims that Light of Motiram is a close replica of its games developed by Guerrilla, specifically Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West. They argue that Tencent’s game may mislead potential buyers due to its striking similarity in appearance.
Sony disclosed that Tencent proposed a partnership on a new game in the Horizon series last year, but Sony turned down this offer. The announcement for Light of Motiram, according to Sony, followed shortly after this proposal. In the lawsuit, Sony is demanding financial compensation, though the exact amount isn’t specified, as well as a court order preventing Tencent from infringing on the Horizon IP.
Last year’s release of “Light of Motiram” sparked immediate controversy due to its striking resemblance to Sony’s “Horizon” series. Fans swiftly flooded Reddit discussions and various social media outlets to compare the creature-like entities in “Light of Motiram” with the machines featured in “Horizon” games. Even the promotional art, they pointed out, bore a striking resemblance.
The trailer for “Light of Motiram” unveiled this year provided us a glimpse into the mysterious Outcast Forest zone. Not only did it reveal the zone itself, but it also delved into some exceptional gameplay features of the upcoming title. For instance, players will have an exciting opportunity to wear a helmet that enables them to command the Mechanimals in the game.
As I delve into this intriguing game, I find myself drawn to a forest realm teeming with outcasts from the Dariman Tribe, banished for committing heinous crimes. This suggests a challenging journey, filled with seasoned felons who won’t back down easily. Finding allies and friendly faces might prove as elusive as finding a four-leaf clover in a thistle field.
At this moment, the game titled “Light of Motiram” is being designed for PC (accessible via Steam and Epic Games Store), PS5, iOS, and Android. As of now, neither Tencent nor developers Aurora Studio and Polaris Quest have set a specific release date. However, you can add it to your wishlist on various online stores, as the store listings suggest a 2025 release period. When it’s finally launched, it will be offered for free.
In the forthcoming game, survival aspects will play a significant role, requiring players to gather and manage resources effectively. These resources aren’t just for constructing bases, but also for crafting durable equipment essential for surviving the game’s challenging environments. The construction system uses authentic physics simulations, providing players with ample creative liberty when designing their structures.
The game known as “Light of Motiram” offers an online multiplayer mode, enabling players to seamlessly join and exit one another’s games, ensuring there is no need for concern over synchronizing progression.
