For some time, fans have known about two cooperative games set in the Horizon universe – one developed by NCSoft and another by Guerrilla Games themselves. Guerrilla Games has now revealed their project: Horizon Hunters Gathering. The game will be released on both PlayStation 5 and PC, and you can watch the official trailer above to learn more.
Okay, so I’ve been playing Horizon Hunters Gathering, and it’s a blast! It’s a three-player co-op game where you and your friends work together to defend the world from seriously dangerous machines. The combat is really cool – it’s all about being smart, reacting quickly, and actually getting good at the mechanics. It feels a lot like the other Horizon games in terms of needing to be precise with your shots and tactics, but it adds a whole new layer of fun because you’re coordinating with your team.
The game focuses on exciting and repeatable hunts. Today, two game modes were announced: Machine Incursion and Cauldron Descent.
Game director Arjan Bak announced on the PlayStation Blog that a new story campaign is coming, featuring fresh mysteries, characters, and challenges. While details are currently being kept secret, he confirmed that the ‘Hunters Gathering’ content is officially part of the game’s story and will continue to evolve after the game’s release.
Machine Incursion is a wave-based game mode, and Cauldron Descent is a more extensive, multi-part challenge where rooms constantly change, testing players’ skills. Both of these modes will be available to try out in a closed beta on PlayStation 5 and PC in late February. You can register for a chance to participate in the Horizon Hunters Gathering playtests through the provided link.
Between missions, you can relax and connect with other players at the Hunters Gathering, a central social area. Here, you can personalize your Hunter, shop for upgrades, and find teammates for future adventures. Unlike some games, you don’t create a character from scratch – instead, you choose from a selection of pre-made Hunters when you head out into the wild.
