Update #3 [August 30, 2025, 2:30pm]: Sony has now fixed a glitch that enabled numerous European PlayStation Plus members to obtain a complimentary PS5 game for free.
Last week, CarX Street was mistakenly offered at no charge for a significant portion, causing numerous individuals to enjoy a free download.
Now that issue has been resolved, with the game showing its full price of £24.99 in the UK.
Should you find yourself in possession of it, there’s a nervous anticipation as we await whether Sony decides to rescind access or simply acknowledge the mistake instead.
At the moment when this is being written, you’re able to download and enjoy the game. However, we’ll make sure to keep you updated should anything change in the following days.
Update #2 [Friday, 29th August 2025, 12pm]: It’s been over 48 hours since the game CarX Street was mistakenly offered for free on the PlayStation Store for PS Plus members, and there’s no indication that the problem is being addressed. Although Sony’s storefront suggests this is an oversight, it appears they are in no hurry to rectify the situation.
It’s advisable to grab the game as soon as possible if you haven’t done so already, since we can never be sure how long this unexpected freebie will continue. Although there’s a possibility that the platform owner may eventually revoke access, given that the error has been ongoing for quite some time now, it seems unlikely that they would choose to incur the loss by doing so.
Title Update #1 [Thu, August 28th, 2025, 12 PM]: Over a day has passed since we discovered that PS5 racer “CarX Street” was available for free on the European PlayStation Store, and it seems quite a few of you have already taken advantage and started playing.
Currently, the game continues to be available for free, a state of affairs that hasn’t altered despite our initial expectations for it to have been resolved by now.
If you haven’t made the claim yet, go ahead and do so. Rest assured, we will monitor the situation closely and inform you as soon as this issue is resolved, and if Sony decides to retract access.
The open-world racing game, titled CarX Street, is now available free of charge for PlayStation Plus members on the PlayStation Store, but only in Europe as of now.
In simpler terms, the open-world racing game has garnered quite a bit of popularity, receiving a 4.26 rating on Sony’s online store following approximately 2,500 reviews.
It appears there’s an error, as the game is erroneously displaying as free for PS Plus Essential subscribers up until September 10th. So far, we’ve been able to claim and download it without problems. However, there’s a chance Sony might rectify this issue by revoking our access once it’s resolved.
Although it’s an error on Sony’s part, we suggest you go ahead and give it a shot. They might still honor the transactions. We’ll keep you informed as soon as we get more information.
