Sony Interactive Entertainment announces The Playerbase program to scan players into PlayStation games

Sony is launching a new program called “The Playerbase” that lets PlayStation fans become digital characters in PlayStation games. It starts with Gran Turismo 7, and Sony plans to include the feature in games from other PlayStation Studios later on. The program will be available in several countries across the Americas, Europe, Asia, South Africa, and Australia. Interested players can apply to participate starting today at 7:00 a.m. Pacific Time / 10:00 a.m. Eastern Time.

We’ll be choosing a small group of applicants for video interviews to learn about their passion for PlayStation. From that group, one lucky fan will become a playable character in Gran Turismo 7 as part of The Playerbase – their portrait will appear in the game like other characters. This fan will also co-create a special logo and vehicle design that will be permanently available in the game’s Showcase, and they’ll be invited to Los Angeles for a professional design session and a 3D scan to bring their character to life.

Sony plans to grow The Playerbase by including more PlayStation Studios and featuring fans in ways that match each game’s unique feel and setting. According to Isabelle Tomatis, VP of Global Marketing, this is Sony’s way of showing appreciation for its players, and they’re excited to connect with fans in a new and immersive experience.
