Business analyst Michael Pachter has been very critical of Sony, recently calling it a “terrible company” and stating that it’s currently failing in the games industry. This follows his previous comments from last month, where he described Sony’s management as “clueless” and lacking direction.
I was reading an interview with Michael Pachter on Yahoo Finance, and it was all about the news of EA potentially being bought by three different companies. He really thinks “Connect to TV” is where gaming is headed. When they asked him about *other* possible acquisitions, specifically if someone might try to buy Sony, here’s what the analyst had to say:
Absolutely not Sony. They’re really struggling, especially in the gaming industry. The trend is shifting towards streaming games directly to your TV – similar to how we now watch movies on Netflix. We should move past thinking about subscriptions and instead imagine iOS-like functionality on TVs. That means free-to-play games accessible directly on your TV. Who will make that happen? Cloud providers and AI.
Pachter believes Sony is a “terrible company” because of its limited investment in cloud gaming and streaming. He thinks these technologies are the future of how we’ll access video games. Additionally, Sony doesn’t allow games to be played directly on a TV; a PS5 is required instead.
