As a big fan of what London Studio was doing, I was really sad when they closed down. But I’m excited to hear that some of the ideas and work they did on their cancelled PS5 game are living on! A new game called Cast Outs is coming out, and it’s being made by a team of eight developers who used to work at London Studio. It’s great to see their passion and creativity continuing even after the studio’s closure.
Okay, so I’ve been checking out Cast Outs, and it’s a co-op online game set in this really cool London – but it’s not the London you know. It’s got this urban fantasy vibe, like magic is just part of the city. It feels both fresh and strangely familiar, which is awesome. You basically use spells and magic to get around and take down enemies. It actually reminds me a lot of what the team at London Studio was working on before they unfortunately shut down, so it’s cool to see that kind of gameplay continuing.
I’m so excited for Cast Outs! The developers, Twisted Works, are planning to release it on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, and they’re aiming for an early access beta sometime in the first few months of 2027. They’re even thinking about bringing it to the next Nintendo Switch too, which would be amazing!
I can team up with friends – up to three of us – and play together in a bunch of different ways. We can tackle combat challenges, protect important people, survive waves of enemies, race against the clock, or try out special challenge missions. It’s a lot of fun playing with a crew!
Cast Outs delivers thrilling magic combat that feels both powerful and fast-paced, like a mix of fighting and shooting games. Team up with friends – it’s easy to pick up and play, no matter your skill level – and experience intense, cooperative battles in a dynamic urban environment. It’s designed for quick, exciting gameplay that’s best enjoyed with others.
Here’s a comparison: the only artwork available from the cancelled London Studio game is on the left, and the recently announced Cast Outs is on the right.
London Studio, the team behind the popular SingStar franchise, several EyeToy and PSVR games, and the critically acclaimed Blood & Truth, was shut down in February 2024 as part of PlayStation’s recent layoffs.
