Released after a long wait, The Last Guardian is nearing its 10-year anniversary. The PlayStation 4 game became a favorite for many dedicated PlayStation fans, and now a beautiful statue of the game’s characters, Trico and the boy, is available for around $1,500.
This 50cm tall statue features the main characters and is the first of its kind at this large scale. Created by Torch Torch with sculpting and painting by Akishi Ueda, it’s expected to ship in December 2026 and is currently available for pre-order through the provided link.
As for Sony’s involvement, artist Akishi Ueda said:
When I began working on the project, with guidance from Gen Design and support from Sony Interactive Entertainment, I quickly realized how many people were involved. That’s when the pressure started to build. Usually, I work alone, creating things based on my own inspiration, and I enjoy that solitude. But working with a licensed character meant dealing with input from many different people, which was a new and intense experience for me.
Here are some shots of the statue, which you can enlarge for a better view by clicking on them:
The statue was created with full involvement from developer genDESIGN and Famito Ueda, who hope it will become a cherished item for someone. They see it as more than just a replica of a character, but a unique work of art. If you’re at the Tokyo Game Show this week, you can view the statue firsthand at the Torch Torch booth.
The statue shows Trico, the large beast, poised to jump from a falling-apart building, with the boy riding on his head. According to the description, the statue perfectly captures Trico’s complex personality – his mysterious nature, powerful energy, and endearing qualities. The coloring is also remarkable, carefully designed to create the impression of sunlight, and demonstrates the artistic talent of Akishi Ueda.
If you’re missing this PS4 game, you can still play it on your PS5. However, to experience the original game running at a smooth 60 frames per second, you’ll need the physical disc and you must avoid installing any updates – you’ll need to play the very first version of the game.
When The Last Guardian was released nine years ago, we called it a modern masterpiece, a fantastic game from the creators of beloved titles like Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. While some players might be bothered by technical issues, we believed they would be missing out on a uniquely meaningful and original gaming experience.
In 2025, it’s still looked on just as fondly.
Nowadays, genDESIGN is working on Project Robot for PS5:
